Just one thing, I'm getting the pops and crackles when moving the microphones around in the cabinet view. Is anyone else experiencing this?

My first impressions of the AT3 after few hours experience:
I've got earlier all the Amplitube products, and I have to say
that as a whole the AT3 is a bit dissapointment comparing to the X-Gear.
Why? Here some reasons:
- AT3 interface is more messy than in the X-Gear - at least no improvement or any innovations to the earlier what could be expected when IK sells the AT3 with a huge media hype and pricing of the product follows more or less the new product. Maybe the IK should have taken a time out and develop the AT3 a bit further before the launch?
- the interface is slower (= reacts a some milliseconds slower to the buttons than the X-Gear)
- what worst, I think the general sound or the amp/cab presets and especially some of the amps/cabinets sound less clear, too much unwanted distortion and muddynes (this is something I need more time to elaborate but this so far the most worrying observation of the new AT3, a very fundamental thing)
- MIDI learn: IK advertised before the launch that the MIDI will be radically improved. But no - for some reason the MIDI learn seems to be veeeery
difficult to the IK (comparing to e.g. the NI GR4 where the MIDI learn is very intuitive and doesn't need anything than a "click")!!! My first try-out setting my Axiom49 expression pedal to control the AT3's Wah is to open the Wah in the StompA and click the mouse right side button "Assing Midi ->learn Wah: nothing happens, I just get a message "MIDI Learn, waiting for MIDI input.
I give the MIDI inpunt by moving the expression pedal: nothing happens.
Then I take tha AT# User Manual. There on the pages 290-> is the chapter MIDI configuration: Click Audio -> Hardware settings. What the ... Where's the "Audio->Hardware settings in my AT interface? Can't find it.
Then, in the bottom os the page reads: "Standalone version only".
I haven't installed the AT3 standalone version because the installation procedure told me that the installation the AT3 standalone needs to install the Quictime (or something else that disturbes my CPU in my DAW), I didn't want to load my computer with any extra programs, that's why I left the standalone version out. So, dead end here.
The next pages in the User Manual tell about Assinging Controller etc. but at this point I give up: NOW I hope that IK gives me (and other users) short, clear advice how the set the MIDI controller, pleeease!
(BTW, you can read in KVR Forum pages in the other AT thread how I tried to get the help from the IK guys to get my X-Gear MIDI controlling work, they weren't able to help me, finally I got the help, not from the IK but from the Ableton. I had hoped that the IK had worked out the MIDI controlling in the AT3 but so far no good news. Do I have to go the same through with the AT3?).
- preset browser don't include the information to what product (Metal, Fender etc.) the preset is originated. Neither the preset browser include the stomp preset. And tThere are very few presets as whole for the stomps.
Well, as said, these are my first impressions.
Of course I give to the product/IK the possibility teach where I've missed something (I really hope that most of my observations can be proved wrong) and improve (maybe very soon the 3.1 version?) before stating any final conclusion. Maybe the AT3 is a rather good product as it is for those who's first guitar modelling plugin the AT3 is, but for us who have bought all the Amplitube products and can compare the AT to the X-Gear and other manufactures product, so far the AT3 seems to be a dissapointment comparing to seen ads.
By this message I try - not to diss the IK or the AT3 but - to give the customer feedback which help the manufacturer to make the product better. I have invested that much money and time to the product serie that this is my advantage, too.

This setting has been around since the 50s in this part of the woods and some folks are not ashamed to even use it ...
Here are things that should be added:
Neck+Bridge pickup position (Telecaster, Les Paul's, etc.)
And the following pickup types: P90, Jazzmaster, Lace Sensor

Some folks, including me, never really liked the pre-AT3 cabs, mostly for being too bright (ATF) or too muddy (AT2) - the new ones are so much better for me now, no contest imho.
However, I found the cab section makes it so easy to radically change the character of an amp now, choose a cab and two appropriate mics, adjust the positions going by ear (much easier than in the real world), adjust the room - there you are.
Not saying you're wrong or something, just to put things into perspective.
There are so many variables - taste, guitar, recording chain, monitoring ...

I just did the thing you tried - assign a MIDI pedal to the wah - and it worked exactly as advertised, so sorry, it's not difficult for IK, it's a classic case of PEBKAC. For MIDI control to work, a MIDI signal must actually be delivered to the AT3 plugin by your host. Learn how to set up your host to send MIDI to effects and the 'problem' will be solved.Harry_HH wrote:MIDI learn: IK advertised before the launch that the MIDI will be radically improved. Is anyone else having problems importing WMA files into the 4 track speed trainer?
MP3 and WAV's loading fine just WMA's.
Cheers
Oh, and AT3 ROCKS!!! I have missed playing through quality cranked up amps since I left uni where we had access to pretty much every classic and boutique. The response of AT3 is amazing: pick soft, pick hard, guitar volume up or rolled back, tone up or rolled off, AT3 changes with all of them. I loved AT2, ATJH, ATM but AT3 just blows them away.
Apart form the importing WMA problem as above I am extremly happy and at £149 upgrade price, minus my jampoints I paid £91, the best musical purchase in a while.
Now excuse me I'm off to set up AT3 my Stomp IO for band rehearsal later.
Well done IK.

A basic AT3 rig (like the launch rig) in High Mode runs at roughly 13% - 16% on my 2GHZ Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, Vista Home Premium.shanecgriffo wrote:aargh i'm still getting clicks, if i go beyond the most basic setup (in eco mode)

10% in Medium and 6% in Eco.
Sounds obvious (so excuse me if im being a bit basic) but what about your buffer setting for your Audio interface or ASIO driver settings?

MIDI learn and working fine in my DAW, without any host-signal-analysis or whatever. I.e. the reason can't be my host etc. MIDI learn shouldn't demand anything special, it's not any rocket science. IK's User Manual, as mentioned above, is most unclear.
Now I've got it - but not with the help of the User Manual - but after the
trial-error method.
Harry
P.s. Paulie didn't mention if he thinks the problem existed between my or the manufacturer's chair/keyboard. Perhaps also the previous IK MIDI-learn issue I rose up 'according to Paulie' was just user's fault, see

yeah, i was trying to keep it at/below 200samples/4ms (it had a setting of 178 i think) because J.H used to run ok at 144samples..deanx wrote:A basic AT3 rig (like the launch rig) in High Mode runs at roughly 13% - 16% on my 2GHZ Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, Vista Home Premium.shanecgriffo wrote:aargh i'm still getting clicks, if i go beyond the most basic setup (in eco mode)

also last night when i changed it to the next setting up (5ms /222samples) it crashed and sounded terrible on reloading , but success just now, it adjusted to 5ms setting and doesn't seem too bad latency (in cans anyway) and no crackles on the same presets that crackled before (especially with leslie cab loaded) i even ran the default rig ok at hi setting!
tomorrow will tell, i run a community music group and get to play thru a nice sound system with powered speakers and sub bin. I'll find out if that setting/latency is workable for jamming.
with the default rig i get about 8-9% in eco mode b.t.w

I have a Toshiba Laptop with a 1.6GHz Cenrtrino with 4GB of RAM that I currently use to run Amplitube at rehearsals.
It does run into 50% - 60% on complex rigs and with Amplitube Fender and i'm sure AT3 will run just as high but for basic rigs at rehearsal it gets me through fine. until I buy either a Macbook or Windows laptop with the new Intel I5 processor but thats not for a few weeks yet.
Any ways I'm not sure how much RAM your laptop will take physically but Windows 32bit will take 4GB. Checkout crucial here
http://www.crucial.com/?click=true
you can check pretty much any model ever made and work out how much and what RAM you need.
Not sure if your US or UK based (im UK) but i've sent the US link just change .com for .co.uk or there site prompts you anyway.
An extra bit of RAM may help stabalise things or take somne strain off.

Wow, AT3 really kicks ass! I just love the sound of the new cabs, and for people who only have AT2 the new models are great too
However I have the same issue as Harry_HH, I just can't get MIDI control to work on the plugin version (I'm using Cubase, and yes, the person between the keyboard and the chair knows how to forward MIDI signals to an insert FX, thank you)
Harry: you say you solved the problem after trial-and-error, care to tell us what was your solution?

Im with the Live 8, here it works:
1. Open the stomp effect you want in the rack
2. Over this effect right clik mouse->assign the automation -> parameter 1(..n
3. Open the Live's device's parameters -> move byt mouse the parameter 1 (...n), move the effect parameter you will control, move the external MIDI controller, turn on the Live's MIDI-mode (top righ corner)
4. Turn off the Live's MIDI-mode
Now the MIDI control should work. If not, repeat/try steps 4,3.
Regards
Harry
