No worries, Ian !
All Gibson guitars ever have been nitro, it's a thing of beauty and helps the tone immensely. Properly treated a nitro finish will last a lifetime and gain character over the years, some little dings and crackles are inevitable and part of the deal, don't try to fight them too hard.
Personally I'm having a hard time accepting a non-nitro guitar ...
Everybody's different.
Enjoy your SG,

I'm uber impressed with this SG, the only downside is several of my other guitars will struggle to get a look in now and will probably end up with For Sale signs on their cases :(
again, dont mind me...I wouldn't be Hink if I did say such things ...I hope your SG brings you years odf pleaseure :tu: (white noise riffing, not white water rafting)

I'll certainly enjoy it..........when I get the chance to play it that is. I'd normally be noodling about on a guitar right now, but my eldest cat, Fudge, has got it into her head nothing should be on my lap but her. As she's so soft and getting on a bit now, around 14yo, I can't say no so the SG will have to wait a bit.

@Hink, yep, years of pleasure is the plan :D
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

No chance, I understand perfectly. :hihi:
She's the boss.
I'm lucky my little one absolutely adores guitars.

She even enjoys "playing" them (as long as the amp isn't too loud), with feet, tongue and teeth, no joke, some friends call her Jimi ... 8)

I appreciate that little nitro tutorial, too!

with absolutely zero caution a good old brillo pad or even wire wool on a nitro finish looks dope, destroys resale value however!

I am prefering matte finishes more and more, i think it is becuase i am not into shiny things

Got these two in my crosshairs:

http://www.soundsgreatmusic.com/product ... -sbk-.aspx Has my beloved floyd

http://www.soundsgreatmusic.com/product ... black.aspx Has string thru/tone pros type bridge for ease of retuning/restringing...etc.

Should get the duo for around £800 8) Seven String plunge/plus 26.5" scale-length should give me plenty of br00tal ;)

The MTM-1 goes on hold due to this but nevertheless i will have it by the end of year for sure

I kinda bummed at the ibby/namm announcement. Most of the colors are too weird, the model is "too expensive" and nothing really seems to be there new in the hardtail line. Needs: hardtail/bound neck/prestige-japan made/super wizard prestige neck/not bright yellow or anything like that. If it has a maple fretboard, I really don't want the sharktooth inlays. I don't understand why some of the non-prestige have some really nice inlays (like my 770) and are either dots (boring!) or ST

Seems like the same as last time when they revisited the garish 80's colours, the Universe in all its indivually splattered finishes and many RG's with hair metal finishes. I do not dig it either man.

Seriously though hibidy if you have really small hands and like pretty much the nicest neck i ever tried the Mick Thompson MTM-2 is really worth a look. It has a EdgeFX bridge which is literally the Egde III bolted down for the feel of a floyd without the floating thing, 2xHB, did i mention the sweetest neck i ever played? Fast, Slim and Flat (probably increase your speed by 2 times what it is than a regular Wizard II), No big 'SEVEN' written down the inlay and in the white finish really handsome and pretty at the same time. If you are able to try this model out then please do so my friend. Forget the image of a massive 6,3" tall dude in a big boiler suit with an Iron Mask and all the slipknot down-tuned stuff as it far more capable of any form of metal and rock. Just a good guitar dude plain and simple and very decent price

Obviously YMMV but i think you will really like it if you play one :)

thanks dean! Lol, it's a lot like mine (almost all black) Guessing putting emg's in it straight off is a must?

It might not be so flat of a fretboard that it's not annoying to play other stuff on (which I doubt), but there is absolutely no way guitars like that are going to escape the image of Metal for 14 year-olds.

hibidy - the duncan designed actives which it comes equipped with are in my opinion really good, you could upgrade them to either the Seymour Duncan blackouts (regular, dave mustaine blackouts or indeed the Mick Thompson Blackouts which out of the three i really like) or yep EMGs would work also. I have left the Duncan Designed actives in my schecter and am not planning to replace them, i was really surprised how good they are as i bought with the intention on dropping in a more expensive set but no, not needed :)

@ SadPuppyBlues - can not see this evoking teenage mask lovers as it is sans all the giveaway trademarks and considering the founding member/bass player took an overdose last year i really think that slipknot will never put out another record/album:

That is the one i have tried hibidy, its sweet man, sod the black version on this rare occasion (IMHO) :D

like dean says, the blackouts in the guitar are cool...I like the MT in my Kelly a lot, I was looking at that Ibanez the other night for fun. In the future I should start hitting the stores around here, the store I use to work at (Daddy's Junky Music) has the largest selection of used gear you'll find (good size chain) and none of the same jerks work there now and I can have gear sent to any store from any store so if I see a guitar or something I'm interested in I can check it out. (4 stores within 30 minutes)

But then again, maybe I shouldn't though I haven't done the whole music store cruise thing since I left retail and who knows what I might find

I'm getting old, what was I looking at last night with the MT blackouts? It wasn't the Ibanez

You will probably stumble through lots of muck that you do not want but at the time there will be some pearls amongst the swines also. I tend to use the same store for all my guitar gear but if they do not deal a certain brand then i do go walkabouts and it can be hit and miss. I think the best stuff you will find is used pedals which if like me, you have a big soft spot for it will be fun. A few trial runs can not hurt, can they?

Also the immediancy of being able to try something that takes your fancy is probably the biggest benefit plus items that people rave about just to hear for yourself...etc. (If you do then my best advice is to take your fave/most used/reference guitar with you always FWIW)

As always if you do so then would love to hear about your trips out/what you find even if you did not buy, what you enjoyed and definately what you did not!...etc. Hink my friend :tu:

My bedtime or rather lay down and just rest my eyes time soon as i do not sleep. Catch you soon chaps :D
