Does Fastspring have a report to show unpaid orders? I.e. orders which were placed but were not paid for one reason or another. To see if there's an unreasonable number of them there.

He received the credit note on the same day. He was able to see funds in his account with waiting status (cc payment) and then the funds were gone. When he asked bank why, they told him that the refund was canceled by MyCommerce. How is this even possible?
I assume the buyer's card account is notified that money is in transit before it even left DR's account. The payment is "Pending". The actual money might arrive a day or more later. Before the money has left DR's account maybe it can be cancelled by DR or by DR's bank if there's no money.

But once the money has arrived in the buyer's account I don't think it can be cancelled or taken back.

Does "canceled" really mean canceled or not possible due to insufficient funds. If they are really canceling refunds this would be another level of criminal behavior but I believe that they are simply out of money.

Maybe you had connected affiliates in MyCommerce?

Post

We switched to PayPro and are seeing a decrease in sales because they have a stricter fraud check. I think the same problem with FastSpring. Less fraud is good, but PayPro block some real and verified customers especially from APAC. I don't know why but a lot of transactions (from long time customers) from Indonesia have been blocked or PayPro requested scan of ID, card info, etc.

If the refund was shown as "pending" on the credit card, it was not completed yet but indeed pending. Customer can charge back the amount if the refund was canceleed.

There is a lesson for all here.... if you/we use a MoR there's always a risk, as they are the Merchant of Record. Much less risk if you use just a payment gateway and sell directly. It takes more work for the tax part that you need to manage yourself, but if you sell small amounts, there are thresholds in most jurisdictions and if you sell large amounts even more of a reason to sell directly instead of relying on a third party.

Yeah, seems to be a great MoR - but someone wrote that they only accept merchants that make >50k monthly - so not for everyone...

Post

That is not true. We do not make >50k

When I applied to open an account with Cleverbridge, I was told that a minimum monthly fee of $2000 was required, so I gave up.

It had a waiting/pending status but then it was completely gone, removed. This is what customer reported. If they initiate chargeback who will actually pay them? I assume if this failure of refund is result of empty MyCommerce bank account than the chargeback would also fail.

Most of us are in the middle though, which makes MoRs attractive. Also, fraud detection should be better. A scammer can be blocked out of the entire payment network. Lastly, some of the support work that is order- and not product related is handled by the MoR.
