the last thing i would ever want to do with music is make money. I hope there's some folks on this thread that are with me.

Depends on what you mean by "make money".
I'd love to earn an income from it but no means big enchilada money.
If I could make say 27-32K a year I'd be wrapped.
It would be more than enough for me too live of and survive on.
I could think of nothing better than doing what I loved for a living even if it was just enough income to cover bills the essentials , a roof over my head and the odd splurge on a new VST once or twice a year.
I however am not even remotely attracted too the idea of uber success, celebrity , fame and a mega bucks fortune

That probably explains why I'm happy.
Never been one to be driven by huge financial rewards myself.

a couple bucks to pay for the cost of the cdr - meh. I make music for me. I can't stand the radio, or even most music. I like my music i make it i listen to it. sometimes people are like - what the hell is that??!!! can I have some? and i say, meh...

I certainly understand where you're coming from.

I fully respect people who are wrapped up in music for the reason of making it their primary trade, but by far most of the really great songwriting, and the excellent talent that I have come across, has been at festivals, gatherings, and parties -- music by people for whom the last thing on their minds is "compensation". They're no more doing their art "for money" than I cooked my breakfast this morning expecting money for it.

The relatively few people who work in the domain of music as a business, are so close to it, they probably don't realize just how many people are making music for no other compensation than the satisfaction of having done it.

I loved making money from music - didn't make a shit load, but I was a student at the time so getting paid for gigging & doing vocals was great - doing something enjoyable & getting paid.
The little publishing advance I got was nice too - shame it got spent on drugs, booze & clothes (& a few textbooks).

Wait wait wait! This might be true with the few GREAT albums. But for the most part, albums are only decent, or perhaps good, and among the few gems there are numerous tracks you really shouldn't vaste money on buying, or time on listening to.

So, not buying albums is going to encourage labels and artists to spend MORE time on creating great albums or less? I think the answer is obvious.
