If you have the torrent, and you get a request for it to be seeded, you (should ideally) start seeding it again.

Can someone try to download this then, while the legal matters are still being debated?

It's a film clip of one song with the John Scofield Trio from Malta Jazz Festival 2004.

Yup!
I did the same thing over and over, and suddenly it worked.
This is annoying. I don't know what I did right, so I'll probably do it wrong again.
It's like when I'm in Amsterdam. I've been there many many times, but EVERY TIME I get lost, so I still don't know how to get around.

The Karmapalooza CD is suddenly streaming in as well! Yay!

I get you there. :)

I think it's perfectly fine, though.
Nobody said anything about it when we filmed (if you get the film you see more people filming openly at the venue).

There are no "legal issues" with any P2P software [actually there are, but...]. The thing is, many people use it to host or download illegal stuff, but that doesn't make the software illegal. Torrent hosts and clients, especially, aren't illegal [many of them], and there is so many useful, totally legal content you can download with it. Actually, if you're not using it, you're missing out big time :D. Shows, series, fun stuff in general etc. There are websites that host TV series, for example, and you have monthly subscription so you can download TV shows and such. Totally legal :D.

Cheers!

Uh...
Sure.
The legal issue at hand is whether I'm allowed to post the film clip I took myself at a jazz festival.

And I support being cautious, because I see this place as very promising, and wouldn't want to contribute to any problems it might encounter.

I don't think I am with the Scofield clip.

If there are any professionals in this area that we can ask if it is legal or not that would be very helpful.

Under no circumstances that illegal material will be on there, and I am happy that you respect that, Hovmod.

Also, Hovmod, if you could hold off posting anymore videos until now (unless you know for sure they are definitely legal and by a lot of approvals of several different people) that would be good, but even better if you have anything else to submit?

Perhaps mention it to your other musician friends that they can use it to promote their music, they don't need to submit their whole album, but perhaps an EP which is taken from a full album as a promotion.

But, in my opinion the tracks on the promotion EP shouldn't be low quality, (e.g. atleast 128kbps).
I really don't want a bunch of promotional EP's/singles on there at 96kbps.

Though the ideology of File Sharing among peers is a good idea - the real big big danger is the 'fact' that indexing services have been sued and closed in the recent past due to the 'fact' many many people abused copyrights and shared illegal content - that generated a theory among many who are not totally clued in that 'all' peer to peer can at some point be infected with illegal content - 'unknowingly' bits of this content can be indexed by the 'users' of the torrent system. Everyone connected to the network is traceable and it's dead easy to trace the origins and where the content is - who has it, who uploaded it, what it is, where they are, etc. Typically 'all' of this info is grabbed by the authorities and 'examined'.

If in any doubt at all - as you are an index service (and technically so is everyone connected to you (and as such you will be the very first the authorities will examine - as torrents are totally under the spotlight) - say NO and be on it like fire.

Yep! Quite a few have been sued and shut down 'google is your pal - use it and find out'

Of course.

I have sent an email to the producers of the Malta Jazz Festival asking for advice.

Meanwhile I found this on the John Scofield website:
John Scofield allows taping at the discretion of each venue on a case by case basis. No video taping, no board patches, sorry. Taping of his Jazz Trio or other jazz oriented projects will not be permitted for reasons outside Scofield's authority -- contractual obligations and the wishes of other musicians with differing opinions. No Scofield tape may be posted on any internet download sites -- they are for individual trading only.

We regret any disappointment this may cause. Contact can be made through www.johnscofield.com (see the contact info listed below or follow the link on the website)
So I'm removing it.
Thanks for making me do the research...

Cheers.
