that probably just means it hangs during scanning a plugin - simply kill the process and restart Sequitur - the plugin in question will be ignored during the next scan... ;-) :-)

Problem is... I can't manually kill the process. It requires a reboot. Last time I tried it, it didn't ignore the VST the next go round and I had to scan all the bloody things again, only to be left hanging at the end.

You couldn't kill the process? :-o :shock:

What version of Windows are you using?

delete the .ini and give it some subfolders when it asks for it (provided your plugins are organized in sub-folders)

I have been using it successfully with the EMU 1820, so that is probably (hopefully?) not the issue.

From what you are saying, it sounds like the splash screen is disappearing but the initial song window never shows up? If that is the case, one possibility I can think of is it is running into trouble making the initial song window (which contains some default VST tracks).

One thing you could try doing is editing settings.xml to have this value:

<settings>
<preferences>
...
<string name="Open New Song" value="blank" />
</preferences>
</settings>

That will cause the initial song to be empty instead initialized with a few tracks.

I'll try those suggestions and post back. I did have success running it without ASIO drivers or rather, without allowing it to scan my VST's, if that's any help.

yes, indeed - that's what I meant when I wrote:
Right thanks -- that makes sense, I've made a note in the wiki.

That's a good idea. As it stands, unless you've already got long chains you're making, usually the area is too large because most inputs and outputs have extremely long names and it's not so smart about compensating for that yet. If that's your problem, in the case of MIDI nodes you can click on the node to get the config view, and give it a short label (the very bottom text control, under the Device Settings). For audio nodes, there isn't a way to relabel them yet.

Technically you should also be able to just resize the columns, but right now it's giving preferential treatment to figuring out the 'ideal' size so in practice that's effectively broken.

jens wrote:midi-connections should have a different colour thatn audio-connections (in the output-fx-area)

Why don't you simply make the audio-connections green and the midi-connections purple? :-)
Heh, yeah, MIDI colours are blue and audio are green. In the case of the pipes, there's also a gray for when one pipe is representing multiple data types.

There are two small display glitches right now: One is just that the MIDI blue colour used for the pipes is so close to the gray that you can't really distinguish it, the other is that it's only showing the correct colour on the horizontal pipes. It'll be a small amount of work to get the colours correct, it'll have to essentially chunk up the pipes and figure out which cluster it can show as blue, which as green, and which it has to fallback on gray for. I just haven't gotten around to that yet.

Well scrolling right, that should be there... ctrl+drag... sheesh. Duh, thanks. Added to the wiki.

Nice one, but is far from stable, but that is what a beta is for right ;) I agree with many of the above, but I reckon this is being adressed now, right?

Dianne doesn't have any problem with her 1616, but we haven't tried it with anything else from Emu. I have seen an occasional hang on startup so it's possible that is more exposed for you.

The first step is to eliminate VSTs as a source of hanging: If you could possibly send C:\Documents and Settings\(your account)\Local Settings\Application Data\Angry Red Planet\Sequitur\scanned VSTs.xml to support at angryredplanet.com it would be very helpful. If that looks good and you're interested we can make a build to help pinpoint what's going on.

thanks,
eric

:o :lol: What's wrong about crtl+drag? :-)

I see :-) (actually I don't see... :hihi: )

exh wrote:Hey all, I mostly lurk here but I thought I would post a note for anyone that's interested in checking out a new host. My friends and I have one we've been working on and we just released an early beta: http://www.angryredplanet.com/.

Sequitur is a MIDI-focused sequencer -- so MIDI focused that we've disabled audio sequencing for the first release. The goal is to have something that works extremely well for basic MIDI editing but also provides some more sophisticated features like interactive destructive processing (see the Using an advanced tool section of the how to guide for an explanation).

Please note that this really is early beta software, there are still many known bugs, it can crash and hang and eat children etc. That disclaimer aside, feedback is welcome!

thanks,
eric

Is this the same app that I was using on BeOS years ago?
If so, glad to see it ported :)
