I'm a FLS user and I play Piano (classical piano at a university post-grad music major level), and I also play flute (mostly wood flute, but I can deal with most woodwinds, and I can play acoustic amd electric guitar well enough to say "I rock."

I canot play drums worth a crap. Anyway I use FLS mainly as a composing scratchpad and for recording classical piano and flute.

In my school, the short buses were for two groups of kids: Those who had gone to jail and had to be separated, and those who were pregnant. Retarded and handicapped kids would ride the regular bus, which *nobody* did if they had a choice. I had my own car at 15, thank Jah.

Good deal! With the exception of a few people that waste their time with name-calling and flaming in the assumption that this thread was started to spur contention, I gotta say many interesting replies.

The more I use it, the more it seems Fruity Loops is indeed a force to be reckoned with - let's hope the audio track features keep on improving and that it continues becoming "more things to more people" with each new release. I finally bought the XXL version and am now trying to download the latest public beta which adds a few key features.

This is, ironically, ancient. I couldn't engineer for crap three years ago, but all the individual tracks are live (one at a time) except for the drums.

I've always liked the solo because it was a moment of true abandon at a time when I thought practicing was fun. Silly man. iNsTRUment was ztar. I think my ex was in the room the whole time during each pass and her laughs and whatnot ended up in here somehow. It's all very fuzZy now. btw, that's an uncompressed 1965 Eko bass that I still have. I don't have the individual tracks or I'd go back and at least compress it now. There's one on ebay right now for a fair price. They have the most buttery necks you'll find except for maybe a well-set-up Ibanez.

Just curious if any Fruity Loops users exist that also know how to play a musical instrument (and no a turntable doesn't count - or at least I've never heard of a beatmatching/scratching school). Every time I've tried the latest version of FL it feels like a toy, but I know lots of people like it. I do have one friend that uses it to generate little beats to import into Nuendo but that's about the only musician (as in, someone that can play at least one instrument) I know that uses FL.

Just curious what peoples' use for FL is because I can't imagine writing a whole song in it unless its for a video game.

The logic behind this post completely eludes me. What does playing an instrument has to do with using a compositional tool?

A musician plays music.

A composer compose.

You can be one without the other. AAMF, a friend of mine is a virtuoso piano player, played in concert in front of large audiences, mostly classical stuff, and everything else associated. But she never composed a minute of music in her entire life, she's a musician, not a composer, she interpret what composer...composed, and she does it with more skill and grace than the original writter ever could.

I think you're confusing musician skills with composing skills.

I play guitar, bass and keyboard and use FL all the time. It has a tendacy to feel like a toy but that's only untill you actualy get itno it and you realise it's a demon machine capable of mass rave.
