Well, I confess I have not seen the film, but from what I have heard it re-inforces negative stereotypes, and restates the 'deicide' charge that was the excuse for centuries of persecution of jews by christians.

Mel Gibson's recent comments would imply that was rather deliberate... so I wonder what your motives are for promoting that film.
I think I agree with phz and headquest, lets keep this thread on topic.

PM me to discuss further...but first...in response to your comment...I know of many Jewish people who have no problem with that movie at all. Really. They see it in the same way I do, a movie about the last hours of Jesus Christ (born Jewish) without some sort of hidden (or otherwise) agenda about Jewish criticism.

The Bible was mostly written by Jews anyway. So Mel Gibsons movie is based on thier own Biblical writings.

The reality of life is that we are all different and will very likely see certain aspects of any movie differently.

Please do not respond here but by all means send me a PM if you want to discuss it further. As phz has requested and I hope you agree, lets keep this thread on topic. :)

I think I saw a movies button in the T3 video perhaps the video aspects of Tracktion have been developed further?

Not my main FR for T3 but I wonder what that button is for.

Was that one of the browser tabs? Browsing for movie clips perhaps?

Not a browser tab but a new button above the help! button but beneath the options button, bottom left under the new browser.

The camera movement makes it a bit tricky to see but hopefully Mackie will shed more light on it.

They probably just removed the quicktime settings from 'options' to its own button.

Possibly yes. I guess we can only speculate at this point. Hopefully more details will surface soon.

Whether the video is "crap" or "sad" surely depends mostly on whether or not it fulfils its stated intention of summing up the most significant improvements in T3...? It may have been off the cuff, it may have been scripted, and personally I don't care too much about that so long as it is accurate and honest. Here's an interesting quote from the company board:
rocketman5 wrote:Well, I was also at the AES show today and took a peek at T3. Overall, it looks similar to T2 with the exception of the top 2 tracks noted previously. Also, the new VST manager looks like it allows better categorization of plugins. The little info placard next to the laptop running T3 did note CPU enhancements but not much else besides what has already been mentioned.
In that case the video is surely good, because it shows T3 in an accurate light?
What I'm hoping is that the audio engine got overhauled completely. That wouldn't be very spectacular for a video demo, hence it's absence of mention, but it would maybe make Tracktion useable again for me while the latest iteration wasn't.

The thing with video demo is that you have to feature function that can be seen to be effective; things like stability, performance and relative path for project files would make a boring video...but would make a great concept of an app to be useable again.

I will be watching for the actual new features/improvements list.

I agree entirely. Fixing the note-dropping issue, etc, is contingent on a new audio engine, and I'm sure that is what they have devoted a lot of time. Probably adding the new looping will have involved tinkering with the audio engine anyway.

By the way, I find it really odd that already there are people moaning and complaining about T3 on the Tracktion forum, specifically because Mackie added the loop support. I can't understand the negativity :? Audio looping / timestretch was one of the most frequently requested features, and it looks to me as if Mackie have done a stunning implementation of it!

As koolkeys already said, Tracktion is unlikely at this point to rival Sonar/Logic/etc in terms of feature count. But with a fantastic loop implementation, easy no-fuss audio recording, etc, T3 could be the ultimate beginner application, a more pro (and cross platform) alternative to Garageband, and... possibly the best option of all for most home studio enthusiasts. 8)

Yes
I feel like im the only one who cringes at the thought of having to use 2 hosts together....

I cringe too... too much complexity

looking at ableton live 6, the browser is a pain in the ass. i hated it. it took me tons of time to just find my plugin, then the tabbed approach with everything in one monolithic browser containing everything means that the scrollbar is almost ALWAYS at the wrong place in one tab than it is in another tab. granted i have 500+ vst(i)'s but even still, this is such a managable thing in tracktion. bam pop-up list, bam select what i want, popup, it's much faster than the 'scrollbar' way.. the ableton browser is a steaming pile of lost productivity in terms of speed.

this is what i mean about tracktion. drag/drop of plugins to and from racks, dragging inputs, all fast operations, no screwing around. etc.

anyway i'm off topic now but, basically i'm very nervous that they are going to f'n ruin the elegance and zen minimalism of T by not realizing the true strength.

I find dragging vst's into Live faster than Tracktion. Especially considering I can drag in instances with my presets already selected.

for audio recording maybe, but not if people do a lot of midi stuff. no clip based automation, no ability to record aftertouch, no ability to record vst output directly to audio, no ability to adjust volume on frozen tracks. Tracktion is rather primitive in some regards.

It is nice to hear there is a new browser, cause once I started using the browser in Live, I could not bear to use tracktion anymore. Simply moving a midi clip from one project to another in Tracktion sucks campared to easy drag-n-drop in Live.

I doubt I will upgrade to T3 as Live 6 just does it for me. I certainly would not unless it has multi-cpu support. My copy of T2 now lives in a studio I share with a few people and is still used for editing radio shows. For that I like it better than Live, but for making music with soft synths, Tracktion has no allure.

The Mackie browser looks very similar to Apples Soundtrack Pro. I wonder if they are licensing Apple loops?

I also wonder how much the price will go up.

Hi pdxindy 8)

I agree with all your points about Live, and for my own personal use Live 6 is definitely no.1 :D

The reasons that I think that T3 could at least potentially be "possibly the best option of all for most home studio enthusiasts" are however:

1] It's *much* cheaper
2] It's *probably* easier for beginners to learn (depending on their personal learning style)
3] It has more stuff bundled (assuming the plugin bundle is still included)
4] A lot of people simply seem to want a good, linear multitracker for audio.

Live *totally* suits me - and you - but is not to everyone's taste.

Very true - in fact you can drag a VSTi from the browser onto a blank section of screen and Live will even create the instrument track for you. Nice 8)

Yes - there is a hint that it is going up above the $150 mark. I can see some people complaining that they are just paying the extra for the 5Gb of loops that they don't want, just as they did with the plugin bundle last time.
