i think has Squids has mentioned several times that there different products at different price points.

Re: Drumcore GB - yes 9 GB including 5 add on paks for $99 is a great deal. No doubt about that.

Here the loops costs more, because they do more.

Should you not enjoy your toyota because the BMW has more features?

There is something cool about each of the formats. Loops in general sound great and are fast, multi tracks, same sound, but now you can mix them

MIDI loops have the flexibility to easily edit and use different VSTi sound sources.

I agree that there is a lot of choice and it all comes down to how you like to work. I think you need to find how YOU like to work and then you will the see the value in one of the formats.

Traditionally, I have always used MIDI drums (back to cubase on the Atari!) My method of working on songs never included loops. However I like to try things out and do something different, so I jumped in on the drumcore group buy. I use BFD2 primarily, but it was a crazy deal for $99.00 for so much content. I figure I will play that a bit and see how it fits into my way of doing things.

It would be nice if there was software out there that was a combination of BFD2 , jamstix and Drumcore that worked with a product like Studio Profiles loops, but at this point in time, there is no such wonder product.

This group buy seems to focus on a more traditionalist approach to making music, that is, take raw material recorded with multiple mics in a studio, mix it, and master it. This is the way things were done before the Wonderful World of MIDI. This way of working had a certain feel to the end product which required a lot of work, but it was a labor of love. In recent years, we have been spoiled with MIDI loops, samplers, and a thousand ways of manipulating them. You can do amazing things with the new technology, but the traditionalist approach will give you more of a vintage feel.

The "hype" you speak of is more the opinion of people familar with and fond of the traditionalist approach. In the end, you have to decide how you want to work, what you want to produce and what tools you need. I haven't seen any "trashing" in this thread except from your posts, calex. Just reflect on what you want from your tools and consider what the tools will do for you. The information is out there for you to learn about the technology and make your decisions. If you need some advice, there is a wealth of expertise here at KVR as long as you ask nicely.

Yes, although one main difference between this and the traditional multitrack drum approach is that the are edited into loops that not only lock to the host tempo (saving one the work of doing that part) but with these modern formats like Rex you could export the midi and mess around "new school" style and be creative with it more than you could with the "old school" method of just playing the grooves as is. You can quantize the grooves, give them different fee in various DAWS or samplers... a lot of quick things! But, yes, you're right. This additional flexibility does suggest there can be more work to get the results you want. The people who would be interested in this are the type who WANT to do that work to tailor their tracks, produce and engineer them essentially, to their liking with more options!

I think us veteran KVRians will have to teach some people the benefits of multiple mic channel mixing and why you'd want an audio loop vs. a midi loop playing a kit. Both are great! But they ARE different. I think I explained it pretty well earlier though. The live drummer may hit ANYTHING on the drum set in any fashion and that animation is just not possible/realistic to be able to replicate exactly with midi. You can get really close in many cases but... the best in my opinion is a combination of both audio loops and midi playing kits and that's why we made this series done this way.

Agreed.

My MIDI programming sucks though, so I'm stuck with loops mainly

Play what you feel and feel what you play.

Okay! So, we didn't have any contests on this one (have to still get out some prizes from the last one) but here they are.

1. Person who opens the most threads in forums outside of KVR gets: The RingBeats Kit and Motown Session Kit (the playable drum kits) in Kontakt for FREE. Downloadable and the first to get it. Good luck!

2. Person who posts the most in those threads outside of KVR gets: Their choice of one of the kits in #1.

3. Random drawing will be held for some Studio ProFile Shhhhwag to be determined later.

Good luck! If you win the first two and don't have Kontakt then you can opt to wait for the BFD version or have a straight $50 in epointz instead. It's not hard to win but you'd have to get started! The first person to post in those forums gets that grand prize (but don't get banned... try to make a nice welcome post pls).

54!!!!

One of which was me getting the Studio Profiles bundle :D

Gawd I love these...

Let's keep this moving...has anyone seen the Rev?

HG...where did you go?

Tele?

Where's the rest of the (BER)fab four

I'll get some posts out there shortly....in the meantime, there's more demos that have been posted and this is a good opportunity to get CSR and T-Racks for those that don't have them...and an opportunity that we haven't had before...getting 3 libraries of multi-track loops and they're in 3 styles to boot!

Come on...turn the PAGE, PLANT yourself some new loops...I know you have JONES for them BONHAM-E

(Wasn't sure how to get Bonham in that one...):hihi:
Play what you feel and feel what you play.

The BerFab Four was almost scared away. But, we'll get 'em back! We need Tele to Tally up the outside links to help determine the winners of the contest... we need the guys that are into multi-track grooves to come out and shout about it! ;) This is the time for it's release after years of work... and we've got more coming! Artist's grooves, different styles... a mountain of sessions and editing waiting to be explored!

I'm here!! I started a thread over in the

Cakewalk Software Forum http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=1417452

We're at 55 now. This deal is has a tremendous amount of value built in. The ability to fine tune the drum mix is something that a lot of people are going to love.

As everyone realizes, this GB isn't for everyone. It's for those who like total control of thier mix. It's a great chance for budding engineers to have some great tracks to emulate in your own recording, too. (of course it's tough to get all these kits together, mic them with prime mics, get a great drummer to lay down the tracks, though) Squids has made some great mega posts about how much care was taken to create these.

Gotta love these eSoundz GB's!! Squids does things right.

Ha ha,,, the tele-tally,,, has a nice poetic ring to it!! He has a pretty good knack for seeing things tele-pathically

What about "most creative 'new media' presentation outside of KVR"? OK, so I just want to win that one hehe. Mine's not a "thread" per se, but how about podcasts and videos and such? Let's branch out!

Did we get a chart yet? I've been out of the loop - out of town and on a borrowed laptop due to my main laptop's hard drive dying (and no stock here so nothing to do but get it home then fixed) - so I may not have seen it.

Not really going to comment on the Debbie Downer stuff, but another point that has been mentioned but not discussed in any great detail is the learning potential you get with these loops. I'm a fan of this aspect - I learned on mostly tape and at a time when computer-based recording was definitely the exception not the rule. I like this and hope some 100% digital folks can get a taste of working with drum recordings like this. I'd probably use the loops to brush up on that as I haven't recorded a real drum set in a while and when I do lately I use a minimalist method (Recorderman or Glyn Johns methods).

If I werent wanting Ampeg SVX or Amplitube 2 I would sure love to have CSR... I still may join if it gets to the max discount...

Hi,guys.. tempted as I am I must say that those drum demo's on the esoundz site just are not doing it for me.. it's more the style than anything else..

Is it possible to somehow include us more 'electronica/techno/trance producers in this group buy by ie. offering another sample set of percussive/groove orientated loops, or something along those lines?

I think then you would get a LOT more people going for this [potentially] awesome deal... I'd certainly be one of them!!

Just an idea
