I'm bored of music in general and prefer talk radio. Though I do quite like Girls Aloud, an entirely manufactured British girl group.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

I'd rather listen to unrelnting big nasty walls of screeching feedback for an hour than listen to any music created with the intent of having people dance to it in a club.
Same goes for 99% of all modern electronic music, for that matter.
Partly because I hate that stuff, and partly because I really like unrelenting big nasty walls of screeching feedback. :hihi:

I just took a look at the top 50 on the Billboard list (apparently you have to sign up to see all 100) and I don't think I've ever heard anything on it (that I'm aware of). I don't even have a clue who half of these people are.

Grand total of finished, non-pisstake tracks I completed in 2008: One :dog:.

one more than me...but i do know two BJ Thomas songs, in fact i know a small shitload of "bad" 70's songs, and it hasn't gotten me far...seeing how i haven't purchased any recorded music in a really long time, it doesn't make any sense to say what i like or dislike..but i'll listen to blips and bleeps/wall of screech/soft rock/whatever if i think it's good (i just leave it on WFMU at home)

and on a very embarrassing, non-musical note: i voted for Blago  it's made me realize i have to pay closer attention to shit i vote for...in my defense the person he was running against was really annoying and had ties to the former/currently incarcerated gov...

I own ALL of their albums to date, including Nash's solo albums. They are the only christian band that doesn't annoy me (Jars of Clay is not bad either). I think their guitar work is highly underrated--especially the early energetic rhythm guitar stuff.

My confessions:

1) I hate that I'm self-taught. I wish my parents would've allowed me to take music lessons when I begged them multiple times as a kid.

2) I've been playing keyboard and guitar for over 17 years and I still suck at them. I can't do impressive fast guitar solo's, and I can't play a single piece of piano music from beginning to end (though I've never tried), except my own compositions (but they are very easy to play).

3) I very rarely bother learning to play music written by others, except for a couple of piano solos or guitar solo's because I thought they'd teach me something I didn't know. They didn't.

4) I only really enjoy playing drums along with other instruments--by itself it's not that fun for me.

5) People are often amazed when they visit my website because they think I'm multi-talented, but the truth is, anyone who's reasonably intelligent and creative can probably do the things I do and to the same level IF THEY SPENT THE TIME required to get there. Most people can't because they don't spend the time trying. I live and breath creative shit so that's all I do with my time--so of course I get somewhere with them eventually. Give a monkey some tools and they'll eventually do something with them. There's nothing amazing at all--just do it.

6) I secretly wish I'm Ryuichi Sakamoto.

7) My greatest fear in life is to not have accomplished anything worth noting. It used to be not finding my other half, but I found her so that's taken care of. It's hard for me to just enjoy life when I'm not reaching for a goal of some sort.

8) I find many classical music boring or pretentious, and far prefer modern symphonic works (Debussy, Ravel, Mahler, film scores) over Chopin, Bach, Mozart...etc.

9) I don't really like classic rock (Lead Zeppelin-ish stuff), but I adore Dark Side of the Moon.

10) Most IDM sounds too pretentiously experimental to me. It's as if it's a crime to actually have any kind of catchy/aesthetically pleasing melodies/harmonies/rhythm in IDM.

11) Musical tunnel-vision is very sad to me. It's like sticking to just one type of cuisine or one flavor of ice cream--why not enjoy them all?

12) I have far too many different types of picks (whole box full of them, all categorized by stiffness and thickness), and I only really use 2 or three of them.

13) I'm obsessed with hearing protection. I have a pair of Hearos ear filters that I take with me wherever I go. I'm one of those people that plugs my ears with my fingers when there's loud noises nearby (such as a train passing or walking by a construction site).

14) I can't stand typical Chinese pop ballads. They all sound the same and say the same shit over and over.

15) I don't understand the Koreans and their obsession with rap, or adding rap parts to all their music--even ballads.

16) I think Andrea Corr is too cute for words.

17) 4/4 on the floor is a cop out and I consider people who use it too much rhythmically challenged.

18) The whole using pre-made loops thing--I don't think it matters what the person using loops says--it only matters what his audience thinks of his music (IF they have been informed that he's using loops). If your audience say you're a fraud, then you are.

19) I think using presets is fine, as long as you actually play something original with them (instead of holding down a single note only).

20) I can't stand that the media equates electronic music to dance music. They are NOT automatically the same thing!

21) I once sold a song to a very famous popstar in Taiwan. He used it in his 1995 album. He mangled it with his mediocre singing and the producer mangled it by changing the rhythm and melody of the climax of the song. I wish I had stood up to the producer when it happened (I was only 22 at the time and new to the biz).

22) Part of me wonders how my life would've turned out had I stayed in Taiwan in 1995 and kept at it with the music career. I hated the mainstream market there so I left and came back to the States.

23) I think most people have too narrow of a range in their musical taste or exposure to music from other cultures/time periods.

24) Hope Sandoval mystifies me.

25) Lisa Ekdahl's jazz vocals make me melt.

26) My guilty pleasure in music is cutesy Asian girl pop, where they sound like Lolita jail baits or the cute girl next door. But even then I still have preferences--I can't stand really crass stuff--I like genuine cuteness, not fake "buriko" bullshit. Kahimi Karie for example, is the real deal. She actually talks exactly like how she sings in real life.

You're far too good at what you do for just anybody to do it at the same level. Sorry, but you really are multi-talented.

Interesting...I was just talking about pretty similar feelings with a friend of mine this evening.

not really a confession, more a statement...

i actually enjoy making music (tho dont get as much time these days) and enjoy making sounds/plying with synths...i despise ppl who spend their lives talking about how good they are, or how good their gear is, or how good their technique is and never make a fuckin tune...EVER!

i never claim to be the worlds bets songwirte/musician, but i bloody well enjoy what i do.

and i like most music from the 'crappest' pop to the 'hardest' metal...but im not ashamed of that either

I have never even listened to anything past the first one. Frankly, I'm scared to do it. I have always felt that it was a freak accident that a Christian band could make such a brilliant record, and moreso that I could stomach love songs sang to god. My fear was that if I listened to any other albums, they might be just typical, run-of-the-hill Christian rock and ruin my appreciation for the first one.
