Hm! Got any links? I'd like to hear some of this.
And thank you for the kind words! :D
no worries ;) to be honest i can't really think of any tracks in particular that yours reminded me of. it has a simplicity and vibe that, for me, harked back to when electronica was less complex - a few well chosen sounds and motifs would be enough to take the listener on a ten minute journey. if you have a listen to artists like beaumont hannant, global communication, early speedy j, some mark franklin stuff, black dog/balil/atypic/tura you might pick up on what i mean. perhaps its just a personal thing but it did remind me of how i used to feel when listening to this early stuff :)

And don't forget LFO and Aphex please :!:

Try this Balil track which I found on lastfm for the first time recently. I love this...

Really should brush up on my Warp more.

Cheers,
Mouxbar

Probably my favourite Warp track:

Like the comment says, a very big tune in '91.

Oh aye, and made in Yorkshire 'n all.

( Voters: 14, Votes 294 )

'Alone' getting increasingly lonely at the top with a 20 point haul, extending its lead to 10 points ... but 'Rogue Batty's Dream' also gains 20 and moves to 2nd from 3rd, and due to the fact 'Gone Rogue' appears to ave 'gone asleep', is now the only serious challenger to 'Alone'.
But stranger things have happened, and 'RogueRage' may serve to illustrate just that ... with a gain of 21 points ... taking 4th spot from 11th, and as close now to 3rd, as 'Gone Rogue' is to 2nd !
However, the real stramash right now is from 5th place to 9th where 5 entries are seperated by only 3 points. 'Skanky Funker' and 'Rogues in the House' will be the happiest among them I suspect, each having picked up a 10 point gain, and climbing 4, and 3 places respectively.
... however, below that group, in places 10 to 12, are entries who are not a long way from joining in that stramash !

.... Still a long way to go!! Keep those votes coming, and mind those fingernails!

i must admit i only really like the very early aphex stuff - selected ambient works/on ep and a few others. LFO have always been a bit hit and miss for me too.

i hadn't heard that balil track before. sounds quite new and more like a plaid production to me. good stuff :)

probably my favourite balil track

I have not enjoyed seeing this trend :( (not that I don't agree with it :P) but then again I'm happy people liked it in the first place :D

Its not over yet though Rellik, I can safely say there will be at least another 7 sets of votes .... A lot could change over the next few days :)

Post

...and here are the votes from Australia:

Alone - MOK....................... dix points!
Curiosas - shroom feverish........ cinq points!
Rogue Batty's Dream - Totilototo.. trois points!
Gone Rogue - Rellik............... deux points!
Shadow Animals - AbstractCats..... un point!

brief comments:

MOK: Fantastic ambient track...gorgeous sounds, beautiful production, a real journey.

shroom: great composition & programming, maybe a little more in the percussion would be my only suggestion.

Toti: fantastic soundtrack vibe, very evocative of scenes from Bladerunner (one of my fave movies, of course!)

Rellik: Some great nasty sounds in there - making the most of the synths strengths

AbstractCats: bonus points for pushing the DARK sounds and atmosphere - love it!

....and a big thanks to everyone who voted for yours truly :D :D

as a KVR lurker, it's been fun to get more involved and put some music out there rather than keeping it locked up in the bedroom. your votes have given me a lot of encouragement and I'm definitely in for the Synth1 challenge.

Have been busy writing my PhD thesis, but that's almost done (hu-f*ing-ray!) so now it's time to ROCK!!!!

cheers,

EM

PS...H_U_G_E_ thanks to Tattiemannie for organizational skillz!!

I'll get my vote in tonight or tomorrow.

A Scotsman in a skirt?? Nothing really girlie about that is there?? :-o

Now, a Scotsman in a Sun dress, now THATs girlie :hihi: :hihi:

Post

Oops, yeah, I had forgotten about his being from Scotland
I'm not sure what a SUN dress is, but I trust your judgement, just make it emerald green, I find that very sexy
 :hihi:
(yes, I remember green is the color of Ireland, but please let's be a bit flexible here, we've got a eurovision show to put together and we can't get lost into too many details)
