well, really , you should be poised ready for any kind of cultural collab/exchange....

have vodka on hand for russian sessions, sausage and saurkraut for german projects....and make sure you check with parents/partners which are the 'special' plates before getting musical with any greeks

I think ohmforce's design is more suitable to musicians. If you pay close attention to the video there seems to be some features that are extremely innovative. I could be wrong, but it looks like they have something much better than previous attempts.

Everyone has to own the same plugins in order to hear playback of those plugins or no? This looks very interesting..

It looks like there will be a shared batch of proprietary plugins on the server and available to everyone. This is a great idea for collaboration. To use your own plugs, you'll probably need to render stems on your own daw, or maybe they'll have a provision for that.

I can see this as being really useful for collaborating with friends, perhaps less so jamming with strangers.

tbh, im not buying it just yet based on that video. BUT, the Ohmies have never screwed anything up imo. i dont think theyd start now...

I asked the same sort of questions of the Ohmies a while ago about third party plugin effects and instruments. The Ohmies said they planned to automatically do the rendering for you of the clips, similar to a track freeze in other daws, and do nice things like record a short pre and post clip section for de-clicking of loops. I'm not sure where they are at with regards this but you can rest assured they will have thought about it and made it easy for people to share whatever they create with others.

That is exactly where my thoughts went after watching the promo. Well, actually I thought that right after I thought... what a great promo!

How on earth do you sort out the various artist rights, etc? Do you attach contracts to projects you put up for sharing? Sign here electronically or you can't contribute?

I work odd hours and have zero time or patience to hunt down quality collaborators. It sounds like the approach is start something, loop some folks (or anyone) in, and see what happens over time. Ditch what you don't like and move on. Great concept for me. I signed up for beta.

A few thoughts off the top:

Offline functionality and connectivity to other apps/DAWs needs to be solid.

It would be interesting to have some sort of rating system, where you could rate the folks that contributed. Creating a sort of quality control.

What are the sample rate, bit depth limitations working off a server like that? You could bog down resources in a hurry recording in real time to a server at 96k 24bit, right?

I would not care so much about community aspect but this kind of thing would be good amongs friends. I have years tried to do some projects with couple friends but things never proceeds as we never seem to get together or project files are too hard to send. If I send the project files, then they may ay somewhere if my friend if he is not in productive mood and I cant continue.

This kind of thing would be perfect to get things rolling. Not expecting miracle but still hoping one. I hope the cost would be reasonable.

The decision to pronounce 'Routing' in the North American manner was a decision I personally took to make it more accessible. Native English speakers still understand the word and it's derivatives; e.g sometimes 'Router' which sounds like 'Rooter' when spoken in Proper English can be confusing for some Americans.
The idea was to make the spoken English 100% accessible and cosmopolitan.

I have tried various remote collaboration tools to jam with people. Res Rocket was still the best one so far for me.

Many musicians just aren't that technical. Any system just has to work. Any complicated set-up, opening ports on your router, synchronizing ftp folders clunky slow apps etc etc are killers.

This looks promising so far and I have high hopes - but it is still just a video

DAW integration would be nice but I can well understand that this would be nightmare to do straight off... Maybe if the Ohm guys build momentum with a large user base the DAW developers will come to them...

If it works as advertised I will definitley be in there

I watched the video.
I thought maybe I shall not write anything and not be so negative...but....

But all I thought was "will they make a version for grown-ups as well ?".
The whole visual style (comicstyle) and the explantion of the simplest things (what a piano roll can do..)...

Didn't feel to me as if I was the target group.

Not interested in it so far.
