I just recieved a nice email from Novation/Focusrite, i edited the posts because i was impatient and if i'd waited that second day then the mail was in my inbox

BTW

Not freebie at all Dave, i want to program a new bank of sounds in my own style for Ultra Nova as i stated in my email as it's just the kind of synth i'm looking for to add to my studio setup..busy at the moment as im sorting the contract out for the label and Beatport etc but i want this baby for sure.

I'll need a bigger Audio interface than that for my hardware synths Ingo.

Just been looking Saphire Pro40 would suite my needs, i had one for a few days but it was damaged on delivery so i sent it back and just used the Delta 10/10

For my hardware synths i have a small mixer connected to the audio interface. For recording demos for the Blofeld soundset i connected the Blofeld directly.

[quote="mgtrowe"]We appreciate that there may be a degree of expectation on Novation to develop a 'big-synth' with multi-timbrality and miles of polyphony. While UltraNova is obviously not multi-timbral, it is a serious virtual-analogue synthesizer with the design-focus on the synth engine/effects/performance features, but most importantly it sounds good! It draws heavily on features from the Nova and Supernova (the oscillator signal path and oscillator synthesis features like oscillator hardness and virtual oscillator sync, the filter section dual filters that can be linked for simultaneous cut off movement, powerful effects that can be instantiated in different serial and parallel paths ie - the main 'blocks' that give the Supernova such a distinctive sound). Furthermore, compared to the Nova / Supernova there are more raw oscillator waveforms, wavetables, density/detune on each oscillator, vast modulation options (20 mod slots, 6 envelope generators 3 LFOs) and a chord function. To put all this into a multi-part synth would have pushed it well into a price range that would make it far too expensive for most people. Our intention with UltraNova was to make the most powerful synth possible while keeping it within reach of all synth enthusiasts and musicians and at the same time to keep the synth as straight forward to use as possible.

Added to the synth feature set is the Software Editor/Patch Librarian/Automap control software etc which integrates it well into DAW-based studios. Now that DAWs have matured and recording audio to disk is the norm, multitimbral synths are a desirable luxury rather than an absolute necessity. When the Nova / Supernova II were born, recording multitrack audio in a home studio was still really expensive. DAWs were in their infancy and the more capable DAWs were not host based & therfore still expensive. These days, a Pro Tools LE system / Logic / Ableton etc. running on a half decent laptop totally outstrips a fully tricked out old Pro Tools mix system. So for most people it is quicker and easier to build a track as audio within a DAW rather than manage setting up a multimbral synth, monitoring without a desk and running multiple MIDI tracks to the same synth.

There are also performance aspects of the synth to consider. The ability to trigger envelopes and mod events by touching the encoders (and this is polyphonic touch) mean that this is an expressive instrument to play, and multi-timbrality is pretty much redundant when performing.

Ultimately musician/producers will chose the synth that a) sounds good, b) is best for their needs, c) that they can afford. We designed UltraNova first and foremost for people who need a hardware synth with powerful sound modelling that sounds big - but are less keen/able to spend 4 figure sums.

Yea I hear all of these excuses do you want to add some as to why Novation has advertised this and hyped it usp with paid for reviews for over 3 months and still not one retail store in the USA hass had one. Thats not to say you can't pay for one,, there is a lengthy list of online dealers that will eagerly take your money right now but not any of them will tell you the day it will ship out because none of them have had ANY stock. They are not "oout of stock" because they never have had any Ultras.
Four months ago the synth sounded cool enough but now I have lost the interest I had with no synth hear to use, its just hype and for me, thats all it will be I give up on waiting for you to be nice enough to let us have one. This date of Dec 20th is so planned its sure to backfire...for me it has already.
I have been buying gear and synths since the mid 1980's (1st was a Juno 106 I still own) I and cannot recall any company ever advertising so widespread with videos and paid for reviews that talk it up (repeating the same lines in diff "reviews", you tube "lessons" that are company funded and produced not one by any "user" and you even have specific Ultra "online help and troubleshooting" and still there is no product !! Not in my studio, not in the stores online so where is the Ultranova? You have run all this hype for so long (literally 3+ months) without ever shipping one unit. Many companys have had hot items that ran out of stock but Novation hasn't provided any stock here in the USA or England where its been advertised even longer and the 2 dealers I called were blatently rude when I asked about the Ultra and if they had it in stock. "No we don't have any, don't now nor care when we will get any and do not call again about it , ok goodbye, click" was one UK's take on if they had any for sale. This past month has got me thinking that there's really no synth that can live up to the hype you have created and many people are going to be expecting a whole lot after waiting 4 months or more to get one. Especially those who have given up 700 bucks only to sit and wait some more, to get "in line":. Even Roland only had a month ir less wait fir the Gaia which I think is super and exactly what they said it would be.And no display and no menus to nsvigate and memorize while using a calculator sized screen.I had placed a order with a US retailer and after a 2 week wait I got a refund and have got my eyes on a access Virus which does live up to everything people say about it.
Why has Novation advertised so many months in advance with hardcore advertising and bought reviews and web space? Are you sure people will be satisfied after waiting so long with hyped ads to look at and no synth. It really shocked me to find you already have the "troubleshooting the ultra synth help " up on the Novation website with things like "Why your Ultra's SPDIF won't work correctly" and you dont even have any real users other than maybe demo units for anyone to even need tech support but it looks like you are ready and preparing yourself for the support calls and email questions.

Anything you want to let people like me know. My money is spent but others may still be willing to be dragged along and are content waiting 4 months. I am offended by it 4 months is way too much time. "If I have to wait to fart I get impaitent(sam)", there is no way I can last 4 months and still have interest.
the wait for a Ultranova synth...continues

Hmmm... that's strange... a smaller company like Waldorf can make a SIXTEEN part multi-timbral synth without putting it outside of the typical consumer pricerange. So can Clavia and Korg (Although only about 4 parts, which is still nice). So the "avoiding outrageous prices" argument it pretty damn weak, Novation. It would make sense if we were talking about analog circuitry, however we are not. This is the difference between a $25 DSP and a $50 DSP (perhaps not even).
Multitrack recording (overdubbing) is one of my least favorite recording techniques. I like my synths to be ALIVE and not pre-recorded, so when I take them onstage they will still feel organic and live (and live multi-timbrality is most certainly NOT redundant). Even in the studio, I'd rather be able to adjust a MIDI note rather than re-record a pass. I like to edit all my synthesizer tracks AS MIDI, not as audio and then mix them all down and record ONCE I have the arraingement perfect.

Calling multi-timbrality a "luxury" is extremely ignorant.
You know what IS a luxury? Paying $800 for a single timbre VIRTUAL analog synthesizer. So stop Bulls**tting us and STOP telling us that we don't really want/need multi-timbrality. We consumers are NOT stupid, we know what we want, we know WHY we want it.
When Novation says "Everyone these days overdubs to create synth layers" I don't all of a sudden say "Oh, you're right! I forgot all about that! Now I DO want to waste my money on your 'good' sounding synthesizer!" NO! If people want multi-timbrality then it's pretty safe to say that they've already looked into (and rejected) the possibility of simply overdubbing tracks.
Please.

Look, Novation, you wouldn't even be worth my time if I didn't like you. It's just sad to see such an interesting, good-sounding and (potentially) awesome synth be crippled in this way. Now, please get back to the drawingboard and make a flagship synthesizer for serious musicians.

Not even that. The DSP used in the Waldorf Blofeld synthesizer is the Freescale (Motorola) DSP56371. They cost $9.95 each (in 2003). The Blofeld has enough DSP for up to 25 voices/16 parts.

Well that was a very pleasant comment/statement from Novation. Defending why we don't NEED a multitimberal synth and why having one is basically a luxury we don't need (or deserve - from what this post sounds like). It's all good Novation we understand that we should keep holding our farts and not question the products you choose to (reissue as stripped down and mono 10 years later)

I forgot this list of Novation products I have purchased and have NOW.

/Not for sale/

I do have these novation products and not one is anything recent...

In 1995-96 I got a Basstation keybd and still works plus...
1. Basstation Rack
2. Basstation Rack
3. Super Basstation rack (so much better but they called it quits on analogue the thing that got them a respectable name and pays salaries to employees.
4. Nova / Supernova desktop-these are so cool and def sound
5. Nova/Supernova desktop - ...better than the std supernova I/ II
6. Supernova Rack
7. Supernova Rack
8. A-station (rack)
9. K-Station
10. Drumstation TR drums of all kinds TR808 TR909 more very nice and always sounds great-updated version

I forgot to number the basstation keybd so there's 11 products I have right NOW. I am not a reseller either in any capacity.I love all this gear and its not going to waste I am working tirelessly 24/7

With the Ultranova it looks like they took the bad features of analog synths and the bad features of digital synths and put then all together.

"Ultra gotta have" it anyway? save 80 bucks
If you do preorder go to www.novamusik.com (http://www.novamusik.com) (this is not novation, this is a seller of gear not a maker / remaker of synths they made 10 years ago)and save 80 bucks/ you get a free novamusik t-shirt/You can take a sharpie marker and make it say ultranova musik ! /I am sure you are there already - the t-shirt just seals the deal/ but really, u get a free shirt and they have the Ultra for 619 if u preorder (699 elsewhere in the USA)

If they do actually get them in stock the synth WILL NOT BE 619.99 figure this out own your own.

If I get a bag of cash from santa who knows I may get amnesia and forget everything I read and wrote here...

Waiting 4 months on the ultranova...
