So don't use it.......load four instances and then you can use all the third party effects you want.........

I'm afraid your logic is a bit flawed there.........

Anyway concerning sound design.....I'm supposed to save 4 separate patches and then you have to load each preset into 4 instances of the synth in your DAW to make the full patch? Makes sharing patches a little overcomplicated doesn't it? I'd much rather load one instance of Albino that uses all 4 layers than load 4 Albinos and then load 4 patches for example.

I just made an instrument rack in Live with 3 instances of Zebra. The workflow goes like this:

Drag an instance of Zebra from the browser to a track.
Select the preset I want.
Hit Command-G which groups the selection (1 synth in this case) into an instrument rack.
Option drag the 1st layer to make a second layer with the same synth/preset
Option drag to make a 3rd layer.
set the octave down one on layer 2
Set the master detune down a couple cents on the 3rd layer.
Drag the rack to the browser... everything I just did is saved as a rack preset.
Fast, efficient, took me less than a minute and can be recalled via drag-n-drop

And of course I could have included separate 3rd party effects on each layer... which is really a huge limitation on a 4 layer synth... you mean you never want to put a different effect on one of the layers than what is included with the synth?? Maybe I want a compressor or a verb or a particular delay on one layer... oops... no can do... gotta dissect the thing... most of the that would be the case so I have learned I would rather just use racks to start with because it is far more flexible and has no dead end that requires retracing my steps.

You are right that sharing presets is easier. Nothing wrong with you liking/wanting the feature... I just don't care about it.
+1 again

Also Zebra is one of the best sounding synths out there IMO and i love how easy it is to program.

Lol Teksonik

I think i already did hehe..just thinking though you wouldn't post an AD for a soundset or anything else for that matter without a demo of the product..In this case a sound demo :D

It's not a 12 oscillator synth unless you can send all 12 oscillators through the same signal path - same filters, effects and modulations, which you can't. Not that I would ever want a 12 oscillator synth! Three is the max I'd ever need personally.
Why would you want to route everything through the same signal path?

Echoes in the Attic wrote:As for your point about loading all 4 layers as one preset rather than 4 presets in different instances; Well sure, but why stop there, I want to load an entire song as a preset! Arps and all, then I really won't have to do any sound design or even writing of music at all!
That's a really lame and silly analogy...............
Teksonik! Thank you!

12 oscillators are available on tap,, therefore it is a 12 osc synth, and all can be made to perform the same function. But, as Teksonik says, why? Why limit all 12 osc to one amp or filter? I thought synthesis is about 'going for it' in any which way the synth allows, and here ElectraX allows for some HUGE sounds.

Sure! I give you ElectraX! :D Really and honestly, think of the layers as extra oscillators.
hehe... we are in a beat sync'ed... lfo lfo lfo lfo
...which has revealed a contradiction in you participation in this topic.
On one hand you criticise the Layers in ElectraX, on the other you ask for multiple oscillators...all along I tell you ElectraX has these multiple oscillators. So make up your mind, as it will be easier to converse.

Also, your argumnet against layers in a synth, and for layering in a DAW is only pertaining to you, and you alone. Yet, you have the cheek to tell someone who says that his host is not as good at layering (as your host) you recommend him the Kore...so an extra expenditure and extra time in having to learn another product is your answer to a simple synth which offers beautiful and streamlined layering with very flexible synthesis options... your argument does not make sense to me.

That's it!

Are you sure your workflow is that fast and efficient ?

So doesn't the architecture of this synth excite you?

Sure we can layer up all the synths we want and I do that all the time (4 times Synth 1 is a lot of fun, Albino Zebra and Alchemy layered together can make some crazy sounds etc etc) but there is the challenge of creating a patch within the confines of a synth itself that is one of my true joys.

Looking forward to giving this synth a go and another one that's due out about the same time as well......... :D

Hi Teksonik,

I think it would excite me if i heard an audio demo of it :) However for the type of sounds i program and the Genre i aim for i probably wouldn't use most/many of it's features anyways however im sure that people who would program long soundscapes/evolving pads etc will be in heaven with this sort of synth.
Im interested in hearing it's filters though for sure.
