Tone2 ElectraX is available!

Right now I am thinking about taking the plunge for ElectraX.

There are a few things that are holding me back.

1. I do not like the way Tone2 added features with expansion packs for Gladiator. Am I right or am I wrong. I am getting to the point where I wish companies would just charge one price and keep updating free.

2. Is kind of odd that the discount is another product. Some users said they already have the product, so where does that lead them.

3. It looks like Tone2 does not pay much attention to their customers. I know we can not expect every company to be as accommodating as others.

I feel I will wait for a bit to see if Tone2 comes around, offering a fair deal to everyone and some answers.

This synth clearly could have been Gladiator 3, but that would mean they'd have to give upgrade pricing instead of giving it a new name and giving a free license to a plug in you don't want. Lame, but no surprise from Tone2.

Just listening to the demo tracks I immediately recognised the Gladiator sounds (that HCM characters). It's like when I heard the XILS3 i knew the synth must be related to Eiosis vocodex one way or another. At least Xils3 and PolyKB can do some very interesting things easily, but this ExlectraX doesn't seem so.

Just consider it as hardware. Luckily Tone2 software has been really stable, at least in my experience. So just buy it if you need/want it and don't think about updates nor the company if it bothers you. Buy it for what it is at this moment in time.

.. or wait 6 months and see what happens.

Although ElectraX does have things that I think should have been in Gladiator (Mono Legato, Arp swing, resynthesis), I still think it does have reason enough to be it's own separate product. Both have distinctive filters and effects for sure, but the source sources do much different things. However given that many of us bought Gladiator when we saw a resynthesis button on the gui at V2 which was supposed to come in an expansion, I feel that there should have been an upgrade/crossgrade path from Gadiator 2. I can't believe that in answer to whether there would be a discount, he said there would be a "special offer" for existing customers, which turned out to be a free filter plug-in. How about answering questions honestly, and just saying no I'm sorry there won't be a discount, but we'll have a special freebie instead. sheesh.

Now, I guess that every Tone2 release won't succeed in satisfying every KVRist around , and I also think that Tone2 products are always somehow good enough and innovative to make people debate (and that's interesting!)

The thing to remember is that Tone2 is a pretty small company which -obviously- needs income to live, and if Tone2 had to quit the business we'll all lose! So I hope the best for Tone2 and for their new piece of software.

I said this will be Gladiator 3 the first time Markus announced a synth synth - even before the mp3 demo was posted. This is Tone2 we are talking about after all. Just scroll through Markus' post history to see what I mean.

Having said that, as I mentioned in the other thread, the synth does sound (for my needs at least) very good. I can barely dive into it, because of that retarded time restriction (again, this is Tone2 we're talking about :p), but the presets and the small amount of tweaking I can do in 10 mins, sound very nice. The price however isn't nice.
Also, I can't see myself using that retarded fish eye look GUI for longer periods. Would probably get sea sick or something.

Now all we need is for Mike from Refx to jump in so we can really get this thread started )

I also think that ElectraX could also be called Gladiator 3.

In Electrax there are no modifier chains. In this part it is downgrade. But filters in ElectraX is a pure good trip.

My original post suggested "could have been" and by that I meant that Gladiator 2 could have had the additions of ElectraX and become Gladiator 3. It's really shady to work it this way. It's not like ElectraX is drastically different.

It's really not comparable - you can't even control the cutoff with velocity in Nexus, for example, but you can load string/brass/choir patches. Two different beasts.

After trying the demo in Logic, I'd have to put this synth up there with the best so far... Pretty huge capabilities for some crazy patches. Too much dance stuff, and hoovers for me, but the BT stuff in the pads really show what this thing is capable of. It's almost too much... Nice touch with the collapseable interface too as it's pretty huge. Let the soundsets begin! Ha...

the demo imediately crashes logic 9.1.3 here when trying to automate filter cutoff 1 & 2 of that first brass patch.

just open plugin and chose first brass patch, close plugin, draw automation and it crashes when reopening the gui.

There a bunch of stuff I'd like to try but can't because it's a demo, like the randomizer and resynthesizing a sample. It's impossible to tell how well they would work before trying it. What could possibly be the mentality to certain things in the demo being locked? The only possible effect it could have is to lessen the chances of selling it because people didn't get to try something important to them. It's like trying to prevent it from being sold... I've now been to the website no less than 20 times. Thanks Tone2, I know where your website is.... still. Some market research needed here on common demo restrictions.

...I digress, you're just being full of shit cause you can't afford it. (neither can I, you don't see me going on like a bitch do you? Nope).

BTW, only the cracked / tampered version of Gladiator made any external connections... that was the only version that installed funny shit. Maybe get a legit copy next time. (I tested my legit copy, there was nothing, no weird files, no external connections)
