Well that was weird. :)
Definitely. The combination of those sounds and the German voice-over made me think of Kraftwerk testing a new synth or something...

My ears are not warmed up, but is it weird that that was "hard", or thats the idea?
I really don't know. I got all of them "right" i.e. the expected result for a "fundamental hearer".

(It's a short .flac file with 12 sets - each of which is repeated once - of two consecutive tones. For each set you have to say whether you think the pitch is increasing or decreasing).
On almost all of the sets I hear something that resembles harmonic progressions [edit: or maybe it's just tone pair, but mostly it sounds like harmonic progressions], with clear and and down going voices. So I guess that makes me a harmonic hearer?

Actually I find this problem with most additive synths too: unless there is a fairly complete series of overtones, I keep hearing the individual sines. :P

I hate to de-rail the thread, but I think this is quite interesting. Maybe it deserves a thread of it's own...(?)

EDIT: Done :D (so that's how the Poll thingy works...)

What about Christian Budde's recently released Bass Baron which says on the tin "engineered and developed for a royal bass processing"?

http://sourceforge.net/projects/delphia ... z/download

Post

There's also this which - at least from the description - sounds similar to the MaxBass approach.

http://www.hotto.de/vstplugins/vstsmall ... ancer.html

Haven't tested it yet though.

Well, your post is the only reference for that quote. And Google is telling me nothing about that plugin.
But dayum, thanks for that link. :P:P
Considering they are C.Buddes, theres some eye poppers in there that I have never played with...
Does it feel like Friday to anyone else...?

Christian Budde updates/releases new stuff on his sourceforge page without much fanfare those days. I came across this one completely by accident and then thought it might be relevant to that interesting thread. Please let us know how it fares in your opinion.

What?! What what what!?!

How did they slip under the radar? :o

So it would seem!

You bet. Funny, I was fooling around with C. Budde's plugs yesterday: Butterworth LPF -> Christortion -> soft limiter

Post

Nothing against C. Budde, but I think you'll find those bass plugins pretty "grumbly"-sounding compared to MaxxBass or BBE. If they work in your host.

Just tried it in Reaper on my laptop and seemed to work as described. The speakers are very small and could definitely hear adding some bottom to point where it could be over done quite easily. I haven't tried Maxxbass so I can't compare. Be interest to hear what some one familiar with Maxxbass or Renbass thinks about it.

Christian's blog and site don't mention this one at all. Weird. I will have to give this a try.

I couldn't get his BassBaron to work with my host(s), but BassExtender I could make sound pretty good. Still not as good as MaxxBass to my ears, but a good free offering.

When I read Christian's description of BassExtender, it does the opposite of what MaxxBass claims to do. MaxxBass is trying to increase bass perception by the concept of phantom pitch created by generation of higher harmonics with equal frequency separation implying low frequency pitch. BassExtender takes an existing signal and divides the frequency content creating a lower pitch than the input signal.

Two entirely different paradigms, in my opinion.

Thanks Bduffy...

I think I messed with BassBaron or something simular of his a while back. Don't recall exactly what happened but I do recall kinda liking what I heard. Strange I forgot all about though.
