5pt: bzur - Strong as a Feather
I discounted this track early on for whatever reason, but the absolutely beautiful chorded melody in true bzur tradition got me hooked. As with all things bzur, excellent production, a real well thought-out journey (was this the the laziest track of yours? doesn't seem that way!).

4pt: Jasinski - Arrakis Revisited
Awesome! Simply awesome! I can't really put in words how much I admire your production skills - suffice to say: in my mind, you're "the one" to beat in these compo's. Only thing that kept this from first place for me was, uncharacteristically, the maximization in certain spots that rubbed me the wrong way a bit (note: I said, a bit). I really love the unique take on dubstep-ishness you had on this track, the sound design (espcially the orchestral sorts of stuff), the merging of musical styles, melodies going on throughout, everything else simply great.

3pt: Adagiocm - Arrakis
If they were to make another Dune movie or show, this should be the theme music for it. Excellent orchestral sound design on this, the various parts had me dreaming of spice-plums dancing in my head. Though I haven't seen the movie or read the book recently, I envisioned a lot of what could easily be going on while listening to this track.

2pt: Bumtu - Dune Revolution
Another month, another greatly unique track from you with different but excellent sound design and a great lead.

1pt: Elipsis1 - Jumper
The lead on this track just makes me happy... in a time when I am really, really unhappy. So, thanks for that.

The unordered short-list round-up:
Skyzone - Man Versus Woman: love the bendy melodies in this track; some good percussions. Maybe a bit much going on, but nonetheless very enjoyable.
RuediRena - Spice Jockey: love the unique, sorta crazy melody deal in the second half; wish there were more of it, perhaps.
Satyatunes - Sa Nyu Wahome of The Eagle: insipring melodic work on this track, really like the percussion.
APZX - Gliding Above The Acclivity: a great lead on this.. I kept thinking: this has to repeat soon or something, but instead it kept going in a great way.
Kraftraum - Rotation 7 (Curiosity): Umm... not sure what to say here, the rotations are great. Really like the filter work on the synths.
Nex - On the Edge: cool electro stuff going on, really love the high-pitched drops scattered throughout.
Photonic - Waiting for Sandworm: Well, simply put: really good... amazing composition skills, good sounds.
Marks A Whybikky - Dune at Dusk: probably the most unique sound of the bunch, keep it up.

And if it were strictly sound design:
Jasinski - Summer Night Drive, Marks A Whybikky - Dune at Dusk

This was way too difficult. A ridiculous number of great entries.

1. Bumtu - Dune Revolution (5 points)

2. Pulse Width Modulation - Great Hunter in the Sky (4 points)

3. Jasinski - Arrakis Revisited (3 points)

4. AdagioCm - Arrakis (2 points)

5. Yeager - Dune Tune II (1 point)

Too many honorables to mention, so I'll just leave it there.

Big thanks to those who voted or commented on my track.

Can I just lodge a complaint? The tracks are getting better (and harder to judge) month after month?? Gees guys stop being so good! With that out of the way, you just need to know: each one of the point-awarded tracks deserve 5 points in my book. But since I had to rank them I did. Here goes...

My votes:

5 Pulse Width Modulation - Great Hunter in the Sky
This month belongs to PWM. The range in this track is phenomenal. It shows off the sound design capabilities of Dune, it's got beautiful ambient pads, a bit of percussion you can hook into. And crickets.

4 bzur - Strong as a Feather
A track that I can listen to over and over. I love bzur's sense of phrasing and ability to evolve a theme and complexity. This track is all about subtlety and it pays off on repeated listens.

3 Bumtu - Dune Revolution
Everything that I hear from Bumtu tells me he's on my musical wavelength. I reckon this track has the coolest sound design for this round. Not to mention some infectious melodies, grooves, and top notch arrangement.

2 elipsis1 - jalengis
Elipsis1 is a serious force to be reckoned with. Again it's the sensitivity to the subtle elements that I found beautiful in this track. This is music I would seriously put in rotation on my at-work playlist.

1 Photonic - Waiting for sandworm
Best of the Dune contest orchestral tracks. Photonic is just an amazing composer and the sound design is quite convincing to boot.

The "I wish I had more points" list:

marks-a- whybikky: Dune at dusk
I was totally impressed by the rhythmic use of the filter to create the main 'beat'. This would have made my scoring list if there were a bit more variation. Repetitive is a fine thing but give me something twisty for my brain to sink it's fangs into. You got some great instincts bikky!

Loris D Solic - Parked my horse by the cactus
Definitely the most unique track this month, I think you wrinkled my brain!

AdagioCm - Arrakis
Another stand out. Those horns are so great.

z.prime - Finding Happiness [Redux]
This one grabs you from the beginning and forces you to hang on. Really love the in your face drums and buzzy bass.

N.E.X. - On The Edge
Retro 80s style drum sounds and rhythms combined with modern synth sounds and fx. Totally listenable. Especially love the break down in the middle.

You guys need to stop making it more and more difficult to vote every month! I can't take it anymore!!!

All of your entries this month were either great or good; nothing mediocre or bad! After much agony, here are my votes. All of these tracks, including the HM ones, deserve 5 points from my perspective, but I had to order them somehow

PWM - Great Hunter in the Sky: 5 points.
Just wow! Fantastic sounds. Love the spacey pads, the choir, and the crickets/crackling fire in the background ;) Excellent, gently evolving, relaxing composition. This is by far the track that moved me the most.

Photonic - Waiting for Sandworm: 4 points.
Wonderful soundtrack. As I listen to it, it's easy to visualize the suspenseful wait for the sandworm, and then the worm riding! We should collaborate and write the entire soundtrack for the next Dune movie :)

Bzur - Strong as a Feather: 3 points.
Gorgeous sounds. Great atmosphere, excellent evolving composition! Loved your use of the shakuhachi sound in the latter part.

Jasinski - Arrakis Revisited: 2 points
Fantastic sounds, composition, mix, mastering. Amazing drums!

Kraftraum - Rotation 7 (Curiosity): 1 point
Great FX sounds, filter sweeps! Pure electronic music goodness! I can envision Curiosity trekking through the Martian terrain with this as the soundtrack in the background.

HM:

Elipsis - Jalengis
Great atmosphere, sounds. Very nice deep bass.

Skyzone - Shining Light
Excellent intro. Great pads! Nice sense of suspense/resolution. The composition and sounds are strongly reminiscent of TD. Loved your other entries too. I'm always impressed about the quality and quantity of music you generate in every OSC!!

AngelRemington
I'm likewise impressed by the quantity and quality of your submissions! Very strong entry to OSC!

SatYaTunes - Sa Nyu Wa / Home of the Eagle
Very nice sounds and moving composition!

APZX - Gliding Above the Acclivity
Excellent sounds, beat, transitions, etc. The only thing I didn't like is some of the drum fills in the latter part, which sounded too robotic, almost machine-gun-like. Otherwise it's fantastic.

Doc Jon - The Chase
Nice filter-sweeping riffs. Nice energy overall! Great ending.

Bumtu - Dune Revolution
Fantastic intro, with great metallic percussion; highly original sounds.

Thank you z.prime, satYaTunes, evo2slo for the votes, and Jasinski for the HM; and thank you guys also for the great comments.

Thank you guys for feedback and votes for my track. We all made 2:47:33 of music! I listened to every track and it's my votes:

Adagiocm-Arrakis - 5

I love that! Reminds me Dungeon Siege OST. Maybe you were inspired by that but still awesome.

DocJon-TheChase - 4

Dynamic track. Arps, TB303 like synth and good drums made this track great. However, theme at 2:25 are awesome and the best! One of my favorite kind of electronic sounds and mood made by this.

Photonic-WatingForSandworm - 3

Great tune! Sandworm and DUNE names reminds me... Dune the book ;). Nice progressive from silent themes to climax with percussion.

Jasinski-SummerNightDriveTime - 2

The guitar things are nice. Mood like hot night summer on beach with girls on motorboat ;).

PulseWidthModulation-GreatHunterInTheSky - 1

Awesome soundscapes! Grasshoppers and campfire at the begining are great sound design.

My other favorites:

Bzur-StrongAsAFeather

Nice mood, really like a falling leaf.

Jasinski-ArrakisRevisited

Great orchestral track with synths but any points because too loud high frequency. My ears exploded, not literally but it's hurts, really. Awesome composition but unhealthy mix. I listen on speakers but on headphones my ears would be damaged. Please, think sometimes of this point of view when you make mix :). Especially for competitions where some tracks are too quiet.

Kraftraum-Rotation7curiosity

Reminds me music of Kraftwerk :). Nice sound design.

Satyatunes-SaNyuWahomeOfTheEagle

Great ethnic tune, I like it :).

Z.prime-FindingHappinessredux

Nice electronic track, I don't know what is it (electro house/dubstep?) but it's catchy :). Good sound design, frequency ballanced and very well mixed.

Thank you so much N.E.X.!!

I had never played Dungeon Siege or had heard the soundtrack until now. I just gave a quick listen to a couple of tracks on Youtube, and liked them a lot, so thank you for the pointer!

Post

Dungeon Siege has a simple melody at Cm key so it's easy to make a similar but not the same melodies without knowing that :).

Yep, and the dominant chords in my track are Cm and D, so that probably contributes to the similarity.

My inspiration was mainly the Dune novel, which I had read many years ago, but a lot of the scenes still remained stuck in my mind.

Post

Great tunes, mostly makes me want to go to the movies this month!

5 LorisDSolic-ParkedMyHorseByTheCactus - great whistle, western move music quotes
4 PulseWidthModulation-GreatHunterInTheSky - splendid crickets, spooky, cinematic, great sonic pallete.
3 Elipsis1-Jumper - just hopping
2 Jasinski-ArrakisRevisited cinematic
1 MarksAWhybikky-OhTheresADuneUnderMyPillow - Nice stereo movement, cinematic, dramatic mood changes
Honorable Mentions
MarksAWhybikky-DuneAtDusk - trance inducing
Nikp2000-Dorg - killer kick bass sound, liked the ride bell
Oktipus-RideTheSandworm - Nice electric harpsichord
Photonic-WatingForSandworm - Nice stereo movement, cinematic

Z.prime-FindingHappinessredux - heading toward funky

Thanks for the votes and comments
Wish I had more time to comment, just to busy

Sorry about that hot mix guys, still learning and working things out. I'm probably the reason v'ger is pushing the DR thing. I'll change my ways, promise!
