Thanks so much Gents!!
can't vouch for corona mate. never tried it. nor i have intention to as i don't like the looks of it at all (his other synth discovery6 seems more appealing)
of the ones u have predator despite its old dsp filters is the best suited for making classic sounds as it is has classic 3osc analog structure.

with predator for a basic boogie saw bass just put a sawtooth for each oscillator on different octaves (32',16', 8' and and a slight detune later if u feel the sound is too rigid)
filter cut off down to almost 0 (just let it breath a bit to about 10%), res up anywhere between 30% to 60%.
then some positive env amount (the amount of modulation) which is called contour on a minimoog.
filter env : a0 d40 s30 r15
i don't have predator installed so these are rough setting but you will find it gets u almost there.. then adjust to taste...but the platicky VA feel you will not lose. and it will be just a bleak copy of the real thing.
just buy diva or monark for good funK.
i'm sure there are other good solutions out there but i stopped looking around for softsynths now as i'm fully satisfied with what i got - just need a good modular and that's it.

Wanted to thank Ingo for these - first thing I did after installing Monark was to download and import these snaps. Thanks!

What an incredible generous gift and effort of you Ingonator. Thank for this, I don't have Monark yet though but I just wanted to thank you anyway...

If I got that right those patches are emulations of ancient Moog stuff, so it is no criticism of IW (very generous to give a way free patches, I would not do that) :) Still, I think those examples on page one sound a bit odd, for instance the bass guitar or the violin. Quite unrealistic in my view... Probably the Moog programmers sucked back then :D

Indeed it was normal back then to name synth sounds Trumpet, Bass Guitar or even Human Voice. You can find patch charts also for miniKORG 700S with such names, not only instruments: for example Locomotive. Of course they don't sound like the original instruments or sound source, just a tiny little bit. Back in the 70s a synth was promoted as imitator of instruments. The keyboard players tried it and found out that pure fantasy sounds are way cooler and let the Banjo player do his own job.

On the other hand this kind of sounds found their way into other music productions, i.e. Switched on Bach, Clockwork Orange etc., where instrument simulations with the Moog (modular) created a very own ensemble sound.

Today's fashion is naming a sound with more drama factor :)

Tell me about it 8) So many synths come with presets given names that don't tell me anything. Sometimes they don't even tell whether it is a bass or a pad or whatever. Oftentimes I just don't see any connection between the names and the sounds...

I am more the functional type, my own patches have descriptive names like Muted_BP_gate_stack_7_pad
Sometimes I wonder if there is a character limitation for preset files 8)

When I change the number voices over 1 the GUI does not move anymore (moving a knob WILL affect the sound but you can't tell what position the knob is in as it doesnt move). Any ideas?

I was having problems loading the files but I figured it out. You have to launch monark from "player" and not from "disk". Follow NI's instructions located here to get monark to show up in player.
