I tried it yesterday, and it is a great drum machine. It indeed needs some improvements workflow-wise and GUI-wise to make things easier and quicker, but the sound is good, very versatile, and i like all the templates (for sound generation, enveloppes, etc).

Before I start to use this joy-inducing percussion machine all over new projects: since it's in beta, what's the amount of movement in the preset format? Is it pretty safe to assume patches made now will sound the same or even close in future versions?

I'll try to keep the presets compatible as much as possible.
There are no big changes planned for the synth engine, only the gui, so this shouldn't be a problem!

While we're still on it...
one version with (almost) all controls on one page (tone mod velocity fader is missing)

and a compact version (showing Effects section instead of Pan and Vol Knobs)

for people like me that still use 14" laptop, the compact version looks very good

The One Version looks great. The knobs could become a bit bigger (and the "retro" knobs could get an other layout), and there should be less space, but I like it if everything (for each drum type) is one one page.CapDan(X) wrote:While we're still on it...

The sound is great. The only reason I'd pass on this purchase would be the lack of an open hat that's choked by the closed hat. A single hat articulation wouldn't suffice, nor would loading a second instance only to have an open hat that wouldn't choke.
Just my two cents...

Wouldn't it be possible to make an open hihat on the basis of an closed hihat by increasing the release time (and maybe by changing the pitch slightly and adjusting the filter)? Briefly said, by adjusting the envelopes?Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:No open and closed hats?e-phonic wrote:I'll try to keep the presets compatible as much as possible.

But how would I program both where one chokes the other? Your method would lead to me having to do a ton of automation every time I wanted an open hat.Tricky-Loops wrote:Wouldn't it be possible to make an open hihat on the basis of an closed hihat by increasing the release time (and maybe by changing the pitch slightly and adjusting the filter)?Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:No open and closed hats?e-phonic wrote:I'll try to keep the presets compatible as much as possible.

Even the 808 had both open and closed hats. In fact, the 808 had 16 drum sounds. And that was an analog machine released in 1981. Here we are 32 years later, and we're talking about a drum synth plugin that far fewer sounds. Just seems odd...

I'm just wondering -- there are 3 CB (=Cymbals?), but no Open Hihats? Isn't it possible to change the "slots", for example if I want to use 2 different Basedrums and 2 Snares, and 1 Open Hihat and 1 Closed Hihat and a Triangle?

The envelopes have a 'hihat' mode. The higher the key the longer the sound. So the sounds will choke each other.I'm just wondering -- there are 3 CB (=Cymbals?), but no Open Hihats?
CB stands for cowbell... or cymbal, just a matter of what sound you create there!
