According to the KORG rep the volca keys have waveform selection. Apparently the "UNISON RING" and "POLY RING" are using square waves, the others use saw.

Another interesting thing, imho, is that the volca keys (and likely beats as well) is not based on the MS-20 filter but on the miniKORG700S.

Not everyone uses (or has to use) a computer to make music. Everything is right there infront of you. Designed to be fun!

Got a while to consider though

Is there any other synths similar to Volca range? Something small and with a sequencer. Would be great if they released just a sequencer for controlling external synths

Any owner of MFB 522/503 or other similar machine with thoughts on the Beats?
(€285/€274 respectively) If you were to pick up two out of the three, what would cover most ground?

that last video really shows how nice the synths sound!

What restrictions will their be not having midi out when using these with a DAW?

I don't totally understand how midi works!

i guess they think they could record knob tweaking with a midi out, i guess not because i think they are real analog pots, not digital controls

Not having midi out restricts you from sending your programmed patterns/sequences to other midi devices, like an MPC or a DAW.

please, 16 steps sequence, you can copy it in your DAW manually in less time it would take to plug it and configure the recording lol

I think the new Korg would be better, depends what you want it for though.

I'm not too crazy about the hi hats and snare on the 522, but the cowbell is nice. The number of useable patterns is about the same, because the 522 sort of jumps around when you need to to use the patterns which use two keystrokes, so it's really not that useable live.

The 503 sequencer is even worse, changes kits whenever you change patterns, practically unusable. But very nice sounds and this would be the one to get if you want those Goa kicks.

The Beats seem to have very nice sounds like the Korg KR/KPR series. The Electribes have a lot of crap drum sounds. That stutter/delay effect is nice too. But hard to tell about the sounds from the demos without an actual hands-on.

Of course the 8 pattern limit is not much good for live sets unless you do something minimal, but you can use an Electribe, or maybe even a Roland MC or Yamaha RM1x to sequence.

Roland haven't really put out interesting digital electronic music gear in over a decade.

I seriously doubt they care. Guitarists want DM3s, instead all they put out now are digital pedals, although the Tera Echo is kind of cool. If they put out a TR-808 with MIDI and individual outs a lot of people would buy it even if kind of expensive, but they are out of touch.

Anyways, I'd rather get that Korg than pay lots for a used TR-606.

But what does seem kind of annoying on those new Korgs is the little Monotron pots. I don't think I mind it as much on the Beats and Bass but on the Keys it's pretty stupid.
