Sorry, I do like your style most of the time, but that is a seriously stupid argument.

Most people that 'stick' with Reaper do so because they feel 'at home' for one or another reason... you know, like it is with almost every user of every other DAW. Reaper's pricing is pretty awesome, but at the end of the day it comes down to how it meets your workflow and other demands.

Note; coming from old style sequencer software (twentyfour and cubase on Atari) with all it's midi-editing mojo, Reaper did for a long time not fulfill my needs in that area. But I guessed that the way and speed it is being developed it would certainly come. And I must say that lately Reaper is getting there in leaps and bounds. Now THAT is why I use it :D
You are right, using the word most was very presumptuous, but I have indeed seen many times people say that's all they could afford but would have rather had cubase. Is that so hard to believe? Of course it feels right at home for lots of its users, just like logic feels natural to me and completely illogical to many others. The reason I don't click with reaper,no matter what skin, is not the lack of capability in the daw, but rather the "feel", and seemingly endless menus. Simply selecting a part of a loop point on the arrange page feels wrong to me, and no GUI can change that as that's the core functionality of the program itself. Obviously its a huge hit, and good luck to the dev, and I do respect the business model, no, admire it.
Cool story, bro. Now stop shitting up the thread that is for the new Reaper step sequencer.

Reaper is always like a political topic, there's rarely any middle ground in the diverse opinions about it. :hihi:

Some people love it simply because it works really well for them and some other people love it because it works really well for them - and - it's (for all practical, not legal, purposes) free. If anyone really thinks that everyone who says they "never look back" at Cubase or PT or Samp or whatever would feel the same way about all that if those products were $60 with no real copy protection... I would say... erhm... not really. :)

Reaper certainly deserves and has earned it's popularity but the price (or lack of) certainly does have some influence on all that. It's really the only pro daw that nobody has to crack to just use forever. It's (imo) very highly undervalued, the pricing, but that model works for the company so it's all good.

In that regard, the idea that everyone uses it only because it's great is just as false as the idea that everyone uses it because it's really inexpensive (or "personally justifiably free" for some). I think both things are true... for different people.

So far, only the "Imperial" skin by White Tie convinced me but I cannot use it with my 19" screen...
Hi,

I use the Imperial version for smaller screens, love it. You said it has no resizeable mixer.
This week I found out about this theme and I like it a lot;

http://stash.reaper.fm/theme/918/BDS.zip

Don't know about the mixer being resizeable though.

Cheers!

Not my taste at all. The pan and volume faders are nearly looking identically. I rather prefer the pan "clock"...

I thought a commercial license would be 225 $, talking off "pro daw" i would have thought, that studios who do this for a living would have to buy a commercial license. Also, please don't forget in your calculation, that Reaper comes with no instruments, no contents in form of presets, loops and samples, Cockos don't have to pay a staff of developers, testers, and marketing guys, and Reaper lacks some features compared with the DAW's you listed. Considering those points, i would say Reaper is more or less in the cost frame of the other DAW's, i don't see much of a difference really. It would be a bargain if there was only one license, for 60 $, that's true.

Nice, like the swift mutation of this device. It may be simple but it's incredibly useful to me. I really prefer using this to the regular midi editor.

This is really coming along nice. The basic graphics are perfect for speedily working.

Really great stuff! :)

sweet jesus that guy is good.

people will whine and whine, but that is one awesome sequencer.

it should be definitely included with the stock js plugins.

It is a fact that 'most' of the people using Reapers forum (A good gauge) are using it because it is cheap (Very easy to go read and see for yourself, there have even been poles that showed this)

It is also a fact that it is very rare 'nowadays' that the over the top Reaper users step into every thread to state how Reaper is the fix for everything

It is also a fact that some people will never let the fact that that used to happen lie

It is also a fact that the small portion of us who bought the pro licence for Reaper own/use various other DAWs and actually point out usability issues more than anybody else to the Cockos devs

It is also a fact that the cheap licencing is not only a "fair trade" system but also a very clever "Less hassle" system for the devs "What do you expect for $60" very commonly thrown out in one thread while "Better than blah expensive DAW" is thrown out in another

Really have to disagree here, it is just a sequencer, nothing more, there are some great ones in VST already that i guess you must have not seen if you think this is awesome, but then over exageration and Reaper do go hand in hand i suppose.
This is as i stated in the previous post part of the cleverness of the devs pricing scheme.
As soon as something is released "Oh this is awesome" actually no it isn't but you settle and that is why so many things in Reaper stay at 80% completion or even worse, that is why Reaper has the nickname of the 80 percenter, too many people proclaim something as awesome, which i always find hilarious at a later date when the updated versions is "How it always should have been"

If you wish to see the perfect example of this, go search way back in the Reaper forum for the "The devils work" tools (An actual quote by the way) that became "Oh yeah this is how it should be" when tools where introduced (By the devs who said they would NEVER do tools, they slow down workflow)

Reaper = The awesome 80 percenter

It is less than 200 kb, does not crash, and allows drums to be sketched out in minutes. Plus dev's updating it in hours as per user requests.
What's not to like ?

Also, its being actively developed by a fellow Reaper user, not one of the devs, so it classifies as a freeware labor of love, rather then what you are on about.

And i have actually used many vst midi sequencers and native DAW sequencers in the past. This is simpler, different and more suited to my tastes.

Therefore you, my bungling friend, are a whiner.

strictly speaking, when resorting to ad hominem in response to someone who dares express a different opinion about Reaper from the prevailing groupthink, the preferred term is of course 'hater'. please report for corrective reinduction.
