I gotta say, first impression of some of the EDM sounds is --- YUCK.
Obviously that's a matter purely of taste, but you know what it isnt'? How freakishly LOUD these are. That's just dumb.

Listen to the Seth Norman ones - you really think they're yuk? Most sounded stunning to me.mholloway wrote:I gotta say, first impression of some of the EDM sounds is --- YUCK.
(I did cry "yuk" at a couple of others I'll admit, there's a few that should never have gone in).
I did a basic string search on "lead" in EDM - about 260 patches - versus 15 actually tagged as such. There are false positives there for sure, but loads of patches with the word LEAD in the file name, not even categorised as Synth Lead. Crazy. Epic Synth has also become under used, it was a really useful tag for all the big huge supersaws - only 10 tagged with it, again not helpful at all.

I was wondering if an old fashioned way of storing samples (on hardware samplers and workstations) could be used, along with other randomization tricks, in order to get a bit of round robins for imported samples. The new "Alternate" modulation source is a blessing for that! Here's a proof of concept video:

Another trick to quickly add variation in Omnisphere is The Orb. If you are not using it, you should be! It literally takes 5 seconds to setup and is a quick "catch all" solution! Integrates quickly into your workflow, whatever that may be.

Like someone else mentioned, I also think that 2.0 is just scratching the surface of its capabilities. I would bet serious money that by the year's end we will be inundated with killer 3rd-party Omni 2 libraries. I'm also betting that Omni 2.1 will be out relatively soon with more presets that live up to its capabilities. Just wait and see!

There are gobs of Virus supersaw sounds (I don't even like those on my Virus TI, but I guess SOMEONE does, since they are ubiquitous.)
Wobbles and drops, drops and wobbles, static and glitch, circuit bent bloops, more glitchy wobbles and static-y computer whoops and....
YUCK.
I loved Omnisphere 1 for the endless gorgeous and musical sounds it had... Not so many of those in the O2 preset library. Oh, some, but please tell me how I can delete the rest of this stuff?
Womp, globble, dunk, wooowwwoooowww, spittle, crank, WOBBBBLLLE....
Oy.

It takes all sorts I guess... I respect your view. For me, I love being able to hear. Music, noise, I've lived a fairly long time now and probably given myself tinnitus by overexposing my senses to music and sound in general. It's my drug.mwalthius wrote:Wobbles and drops, drops and wobbles, static and glitch, circuit bent bloops, more glitchy wobbles and static-y computer whoops and....

Speaking of drug... Isn't it about time someone made another example of the new Omnisphere 2? We have to cultivate a sense of amazing magnificence for this release!!!!!
For the people, by the people!!! Onward and upward!!! Sic itur ad astra!!!!! Q'pla!

@ All the people used to & having experience with granular synthesis and other granulators, how to you like Omnisphere's 2 granular engine? Can it now face and compete against the other granular monster synths? (Padshop, HALion, Alchemy, Mangle, Granite, etc)
I'm curious to have your opinions on its granular capabilities. Thanks!

Where's Torley when you need him for project preset
Jk, going through 4500 sounds isn't realistic. Sweeping through a dozen or so wavetables on the otherhand...
