Lol. I remember those days when I pulled up NI Pro-52 and I was like, "WTF? This sounds like absolute shit. Why did I pay $150 for this?!?" The first synth plugin that made a nod in the general direction of analog sound (imo) was ultra analog. Boy have there been advances. I still use it a ton, but the sound is very 2D compared to Diva or ACE.

I think full price is there for those who have a big enough problem and are desperate enough to want to fix it ASAP by paying full price.ghettosynth wrote:Yep, full price is bullllllshit! You REALLY have to have something going on for that, or your price has to be so low that it doesn't matter.incubus wrote:I haven't even got my waves shell up and running on this computer![]()
I'm f**king hopeless when it comes to plugs. I've bought and sold so many. But at least now I feel really comfy with what I have and NEVER pay full price (a sickness I had at one time)

Yup - it's the "can't wait, gotta have it NOW" crowd. If someone is prepared to pay $550 for a 10+ year old limiter (L3-16 Multimaximizer), power to them!

Well.., at least it's still a good limiter.MogwaiBoy wrote:Yup - it's the "can't wait, gotta have it NOW" crowd. If someone is prepared to pay $550 for a 10+ year old limiter (L3-16 Multimaximizer), power to them!
I'd like to put it up against McDSP's ML8000 just out of curiosity. See how they are alike and how they vary.

Don't get me started on mcdsp
In reason, the RE's were cheap and kick holy ass. But I couldn't get the demo process started no matter what I tried for vst. Hoops of hoops and more hoops.
What I wish is that I could simply get the 670 in vst. The RE version is the best peak catcher/not screwing up the sound comp I've ever used.

Okay well wasn't expecting that. Haha!!
Yeah it's a major pain when tech doesn't work exactly as advertised on the box.

Weird. Never had a single issue with McDSP installations. Couldn't imagine it would be because I use the AU and not the VST version, but because you had issues with the VST and not the RE maybe it is.incubus wrote:Don't get me started on mcdsp

Just bought the 254E for $4 with $75-off voucher. Stoked! Hopefully there'll be a chance to upgrade to the 354E for a sweet price in future again.

Given up on Waves, every host I have when scanning my plugins shits itself at Waves and goes 'what then f**k'.simon.a.billington wrote:I think full price is there for those who have a big enough problem and are desperate enough to want to fix it ASAP by paying full price.ghettosynth wrote:Yep, full price is bullllllshit! Never pay more than $29 for a Waves plugin if you really have to buy one, theyre all on sale permanently

There are a few big mistakes users in general make here...VariKusBrainZ wrote: Given up on Waves, every host I have when scanning my plugins shits itself at Waves and goes 'what then f**k'.

One, they don't check for a new version of Waves Central. Though at least now, Waves Central itself will tell you if it needs updating. Thats extremely helpful.
Two, when users do install new plugins, they don't bother to update their old plugins. They seem to assume that there has been no changes, but often there are. At least now the Central also tells you when you have plugins that require updating.
Largely there changes with the underlying framework. This is common core code that every Waves plugin utilises, if that changes at all, EVERY plugin will require an update.
Probably the single biggest reason for instability is people installing new plugins but not updating the old. You can see for yourself how often things get fixed and updated...

There are other things that can cause issues too, users moving files around, some weird anti-virus thing or another app changing the security configuration of the modem, more obscure stuff like that

To confirm, I had uninstalled everything redownloaded and reinstalled.simon.a.billington wrote:There are a few big mistakes users in general make here...VariKusBrainZ wrote: Given up on Waves, every host I have when scanning my plugins shits itself at Waves and goes 'what then f**k'.

More than once.
As I've had different problems in the past with them not being found, though I did rectify them, I just thought f**k it.
I'm sure the majority don't have problems but as I personally always found myself using other plugins I considered better or equal it's no loss to me.

Concerning Waves: I have three machines loaded with many Waves plug ins, one Win7/64, two Macs with OSX 10.11.6 and Waves plug ins are some of the most reliable ones. They get updated with Waves Central, no matter if I have WUP or not and just run always fine. I heavily rely on Waves plug ins. WUP would be helpful for some to have support going thru every step of installation to sort out what may went wrong.
