MODS!!! :x This person has broken the 3 favorite (favourite) bass lines rule.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

TBH, I'm the OP and I'd kind of given up on this thread a few weeks ago!
So, yeah, bring the bass examples. Make them good quality though, or I'll beat you round the knackers with a digital fish

Am listening to Azymuth a lot again these days, they had some funny ones:

Great bass synth part. Fun to play (although the video seems out of sync with the keyboard playing):

Strangly enough the best baseline of all times did not come up yet. Very strange...; - )

Well....apart from my own funky synth bass laden song   :tu:

The Controllers - "Stay" (1986) is the very symbol of how a funky synth bass line should be constructed

Marcus Miller - "Suddenly" (1983) - no bass line posts without Marcus

Guy - Teddy's Jam (1988) - Teddy Riley pretty much invented the new jack swing elastic bassline (often on an fm synth) - this is the first of 3 Teddy's Jam tracks. I chose the 12" version since there's a few bars where the bass line is completely isolated from the rest of the track.

Obviously, there are many more

As a formely Bass Player here are spontaneous my three favourite Bass lines. I also love every Bassline from Bernard Edwards from Chick and many many more.

Ok, breaking the rule but this is so cool for me too

Mick Karn: The Art Of Parties
Still Life In Mobile Home’s
Cantonese Boy

Still the most innovative fretless player I’ve ever heard... Pino and Jaco are/were fantastic but Mick was just miles ahead in terms of originality. He left us much, much too early. Such a loss.

Hey K-Bee, Glad you like it, Mr. Hands is one of my favorite Herbie albums too :tu:

Thought about more fav. Basslines:

Funnily, SOS Band never could leave that bassline away. "Borrowed" Love from '86 had the same one and even their come back single from 2014 "Just Get Ready" had it.

Actually, that bass line goes all the way back to Yarbrough & Peobles' "Don't Stop The Music" back in 1980. And this was before Jam & Lewis entered the scene.
