Unlike many here I see the point of WUP and think it is reasonable. All the developers have something similar in one form or other. I also don't care about being able to sell my plugins second hand as I usually buy them to use them. But...

I would be ok paying WUP if it's worth it. In the case of this V10 upgrade what is the point? There's absolutely nothing that would warrant a major version change. No updates to the old GUI's (long overdue), no improved support for hi res displays, no change to Waveshell architecture. Nothing at all that I could see that would make sense to call the latest update V10. Even not that many plugins added to various bundles. So releasing V10 as it is seems like a huge fail.

Waves Central needs some work. What's the point of a bloated separate software manager if it even can't differentiate between versions? There should be clear choices for installing, updating and uninstalling specific plugins from all the latest versions. There's still no good way to uninstall a single plugins for example. The current system is a mess. Especially now that V10 is added to the mix. And Central still can't do self update.

Honestly, this release must be the first time in a long time where it seems that Waves has managed to screw up badly.

Being the tech savvy user I am, I restored everything from a Carbon Copy Cloner backup. Now V9 plugs are showing, but I get an error message saying I don't have the licenses to run even though Waves Central shows I have them. In all my years, I never had a program that didn't restore from CCC.

I'm about 4 hours into troubleshooting. This is pretty much the worst upgrade I've ever encountered. Luckily, I'm between projects and have some down time, but if I don't get it figured out by my next booked session, it's #nomorewavesforme

Those license errors are most likely generated by the bundles. If you have any bundles installed that got new plugins but were out of wup then you need to manually delete those new plugins from Waves folder. Then the license errors should go away.

Say what you want but 225$ is just too much, why so greedy?
Looks like no WUP for me, I'll probably just uninstall everything, there are so many great devs and plugins these days...

I think a developer can charge what they want for their products. Only they know their overheard and development time etc.
I think a user/potential customer can decide if that price is too much for them.

But to call them greedy?

Waves Update Plan(WUP) should be bundled only. Updates of individual products should continue to be provided free of charge.

See Rob Papen's policy. After the new eXplorer bundle is released, new products are offered free of charge for a long period of time. This does not stop the updating of individual products included in the bundle of existing users. (eXplorer 2~3 users or individual product buyers) Waves has to leave the old WUP policy and go for a more user-friendly approach.

And at least the W10 should have supported all plugin's flexible UI scaling and HiDPI. It is not at all attractive now.

There's no need for you to perform this update - in case you don't find it worthwhile.

We will be adding more and more into V10 - and you can jump on board once you feel it is beneficial.

You can look at it this way, new things are coming,
after 7 years the structure of V9 (under which all updates were free of charge)
might create limitations and we are planning ahead to keep up with new DAW, OS, etc.
But still we are not abandoning V9 users, or forcing you to jump into V10 or buy anything. Everything will still work the same way it has on your system

Note that we actively develop and maintain this software, as the industry expects Waves to... offer on-call support 20 hours a day, and test each of the (more than 500) plugins over 8 OS versions and over 30 modern DAW versions

No one wants to pay for a minor update. For example, in the release notes for V10, "Fixed: Possible GUI corruption on Windows systems with Intel HD graphic cards." Of course, policies can not be the same for every company. But Waves' policy is not welcome. Is the phone service great? I do not even use it! Email or website support is sufficient. If Waves adhere to this mindset, many people (at least I) will leave Waves.

Well, Plugin Alliance and SoundToys ask 29$ per plugin for upgrading to next major version. NI asks 49$ per plugin.

Waves support definitely beats pretty much every other developer.

So WUP in itself is not that bad. It's just that this V10 has been a total screwup in every possible way.

Hate the WUP. So strange. Give us $225 and we'll give you a coupon for $225. Every. Single. Year. Nope. Never did it. Never will. I don't buy into extremely vague promises of new items/features (give me a roadmap). Present the items/features like NI does and I'll decide whether to upgrade. As presented, I don't need v10. On a side note, technical support is brilliant. Had to use them on 1 occasion (only).

DO NOT let Waves Central delete the V9 stuff (it will ask you at the end of the process).
I accidentally did this, because I wasn't paying attention

NI's KOMPLETE bundle and upgrade / update policy are fine. Soundtoys V5 bundle upgrade were also very attractive with new features and upgrade pricing. Do you see W10 as attractive as investing in WUP every year by looking at future value?

You don't have to pay WUP every year. I don't think I have never paid WUP, except maybe for a plugin or two. Some of the plugins I have have WUP expired in 2013. These plugins have still seen regular updates and improvements. Waves support is the best in industry. It's one of the very few companies where you could actually get phone support. They fix bugs in a matter of days or weeks unlike 99% who take ages or never do.

So I do not see a problem paying WUP once in a 5 or 10 years to upgrade all my plugins to next major version.

That V10 has turned out such a fiasco is frankly staggering. It's like they were having their 25th anniversary party with lots a booze and someone decided to make a joke and post that V10 is out.

Personally I’m waiting for V12. I hear they sound better.
