You should try Chuck Norris' DAW. It automatically drags and drops 2 million MIDI files onto a track, per second.SJ_Digriz wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:11 pmHard to believe other DAWs can't do this basic function that everyone does 50 times a day.harryupbabble wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:10 pm Yeah, but have you ever tried dragging and dropping 20,000 midi files onto a track in your DAW?
That's no problem for REAPER.

As stated before, Ardour lets you drag and drop multiple midi files onto one track but it's going to take hours, maybe even days, to load 20,000 midi files.
I suspect other DAWs are like Ardour in that respect. Slow.
Try it. Find your Midi folder that has the most files in it and drag and drop them onto a track in your DAW. I have always been curious if other DAWs could do that easily.
But remember, loading a few hundred midi files is not the same as loading 20,000 midi files.

Maybe. Does anybody have the full Cubase 5 version or the latest version? Version 9, is it? Try that there. Please. Anybody? I'm curious.SJ_Digriz wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:17 pm by the way, multi midi file drag/drop works fine in C10Pro. Maybe it's the track limitation in the LE version or something.
Heck, try it in any DAW.

10 is the latest and that's what I just tried .. but I have the full version not one of the lite versions. Also, keep in mind that C as a bunch of MIDI import options. For example by default it will try to load a MIDI file and load Halion Sonic, load all of the defined instruments etc... If you turn that off and set it to "load file as single part", your import will go WAAAAY faster.

Well, I'm open to trying out any music-making method. It's just that REAPER can do what my current music-making method requires.

And unlike Reapers completely logical and straight forward method and interface for setting MIDI import, all those crazy MIDI Import options are totally hidden in a place called MIDI Import settings in Cubase.

What about the default setting? Just drag and drop the content of your midi folder that has the most midi files? Just to see what happens?SJ_Digriz wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:34 pm 10 is the latest and that's what I just tried .. but I have the full version not one of the lite versions. I only did a few, and it worked. I don't see a reason to try to load 20k ... If that's what your current process is and Reaper works for that awesome! I'm not trying to totally trash Reaper. It has a lot of really strong things going for it. And it is extremely powerful. I'm just pointing out that all the people that won't acknowledge the other side of the coin have their heads in the sand.

If you set Preferences to it does only that, create a MIDI file.harryupbabble wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:38 pmWhat about the default setting? I dragged my whole folder in, which contains things which are not .mid, and it just works. However that's like 5 MIDIs.
