Some nice things, but I couldn't care less about the racks being used in other DAWS. I want the program itself to evolve, not use it in other DAWS
My thought too. I would rather they had worked on the native interface
I think they need a new Hi-DPI 'Reason'... My guess is that this is already being designed and prototyped... Maybe it will see the light of day in the next 3 to 4 years, it shouldn't be to much work to update the recent player devices...

This is really the beginning of the end of the Reason rack I think, and a move to something more conventional and maintainable.

Wonder if you'll be able to enable/disable the instruments so they don't consume cpu resources after bouncing to audio -for example

I haven't seen how Audio is handled, and hope I assumed correctly that R11 VST will handle audio like most VSTs or effects would - in and out.

I ditched Rewire because of the audio limitation, being forced to record audio in Reason itself is a workflow killer, and an organizing nightmare.

So, can we take our Cubase audio track and route it to the R11 rack for processing? Specifically, I want to use Reason's vocoding for my host audio.
Have you tried Vital?

Why not disable the VST plugin like you would in any DAW?

And...by judging the video (have you watched it?), you can bypass the rack device just like you can in Reason.

I hope it's possible to do that, but when using Reason you can't disable the instruments if I'm not mistaken. I had emailed them a while back and they said the only way to reduce dsp load after bouncing to audio is to delete the original track -which I don't want to do

Say your reason rack vst has multiple instruments loaded , will these be abe to receive on separate midichannels ?

Wow! Didn't see this happening this quickly. Very cool development. Go Props!...er, Reason!

The rack-as-VST is cool - but for me not worth the upgrade price. The 2 added effect units (not counting the mixer stuff put into rack units) and the minor workflow updates do justify an update either, I think. All in all, a very thin update in which the rack-as-VST is probably supposed to convince the buyers/users - but for me, it is not enough. Throw in high resolution graphics, then maybe...

Oh, and I also dont like the shrewd new packaging scheme... - just milking the cows...

This reminds me of 9. BIP was added but other than that it was about players which are fine but not necessary for how I make music. Looks like mr wallet won't be all up in face about an upgrade until at least 11.1

If you bounce a VST plugin in, i.e., Studio One, the plugin is disabled automatically, but you can, whenever you want, revert this if you want to. Since the Reason Rack is a VST, the same "rules" should apply.

It depends how the Reason devs build it, but I can imagine it working a lot like Kontakt so you'd get the option to have multiple instruments within the Reason Rack VST each receiving on their own MIDI channels (or shared, or OMNI) and similarly multiple MIDI and Audio outs for those that want to tap into them.

Are you safe?

Yeah really cool news - the sequencer additions (while not *quite* everything I was waiting for) show that Reason is moving forward as a program in its own right. I think like multi-lane edit they're small changes but ones that you'll find yourself unable to live without. But to be able to then take the rack and effectively have it function as a kind of...Kontakt/Reaktor/Guitar Rig/Modular hybrid is just nuts, and also really interesting in terms of what kind of user this will attract. Find me any sound designer out there who wouldn't love to have all those cables to play with. I'm always singing Reason's praises to the sound designers I know but they're so locked into Logic, Ableton, etc. that I don't blame them for not wanting to dive into another DAW just to get to the fun stuff.

For a full point release, we should have got the resolution and VST3 features as well.
