The speed knob does not seem to have any influence on the delay... Why is that, a bug?

Post

And btw. where is the slack kvr one synth challenge chat gone to? Can't login anymore, did you move to discord?

Post

I think there's three different delay settings and they have hardwired speeds doesn't seem to be controllable.

I posted a discord invite further up this thread

Once again, I'll say that if it forms a fundamental part of the sound design that the sound doesn't work without, IMO it probably runs afoul of the rule against making the sound unrecognizable. In the case of IRs, it could also be considered the use of sampling, especially if you're using it to get the sound of the IR itself from an impulse. Depending on the IR, it might effectively be a pitched delay. That said, maybe it's considered acceptable if it's used for reverb or used in moderation to color the sound. I'm not sure there's a consensus on the use of IRs in OSC.

Which reminds me, I meant to bring this up in regards to:
Yadrichik_Chaya wrote: Mon Dec 06, 2021 2:52 pm I managed to create some cool percussion things like tambourines & shakers etc. The snare I made fits the song but it is really the solo violin that I love the most! I'm pretty sure you guys can create much better sounding violins than I ever can. I used Ignite NadIR and these free Violin Impulse Responses:
http://pcfarina.eng.unipr.it/Public/IMP-RESP/Violins/
I enjoyed this piece, and thought the sounds were good, but I do question the use of those IRs.
Well in my case only the violin sound and nothing else used IRs - no IRs on the other sounds. It was exactly due to a thing I played and looped that almost sounded like a real violin that I decided to even use IRs
The sound itself already had a violinesque feel to it but needed that extra raspy, tons of rosin, sound… ;)

I also made sure they were free and had to search a little.

Which got me thinking: I have no clue why free or even commercial PIANO impulse responses are so rare? Just google it: piano impulse response.
you get a 15 year old thread from a forum, 7 year old stuff etc... Strange!

This would not be allowed: using the IRs for sound design.

As I hear that specific sound it could just be like a little eq which would be ok. Basically an IR of a violin is a bit of a resonance…
If you do the same with a filter it would be ok…

The LFO rate is fixed.
Speed refers to the speed of the modulation, hence the little triangle connecting the two parameters.

Has anyone been able to get orchestral percussion out of this? I might just submit my song with no percussion.

Post

it's almost an hour to get a "decent" kick but this is the things i like it. I was already thinking about making a track without percussion :D

Post

My track will be a 2-part invention style. Doesn't need percussion. Using contrabass, harpsichord, flute +bassoon to work with the flute), clavichord and some strings to fill. 2 parting with clavichord and swap with flute. Harpsichord and strings to play pretty much throughout to bulk out the stage!

Coming along great now I have decided what to do ... should have it done by the deadline :-)

Lots to do and lots of notes to get right - bass and strings are quite easy thankfully.

You can get a lot of decent chimes, bells and triangles if you mess around in the upper register. And I got something akin to an orchestral bass drum when I experimented a few days ago (posted here). I don't remember exactly how I did it, but it's just a single patch with no external processing, so I could send it your way if it fits the bill - just say the word :)

Eff it, here's my track. Percussion be damned, i've already spent more time than I should on it. Soundcloud decided to cut off the first couple notes of the song for some reason?

I've found it necessary to add a short bit of silence before the track starts - at least a half second - to avoid this. It's pretty irritating.
