The chording is nice and the guitar is emotional, raw and unperfectionized by today's standards. EX: These things at ease.

Gary Moore, album We Want Moore (live) song, Shapes of Things (yardbirds cover) handsdown the best...hope no one else already mentioned this.

I really like the solo Randy Rhoads plays at the end of "Revelation Mother Earth".
Taken together with song preceding it and the song afterwards, it represents what I think is the best guitar solo passage from a compositional standpoint...tension and release in palpable quantities.
...for sheer athleticism and innovation, I don't think you can beat early Van Halen...yeah, Yngwie played more notes, but EVH was less scalar, more exciting and used less speed tricks (sweep picking etc.)
Also, he had that whole other side to his playing, notably: Versatility...everytime you thought you had him pigeon-holed, he'd come out with something astounding like the intro "Cathedral", or "Spanish Fly", the slide work on "Women and Children First" or just a chang-up solo like on "When Push Comes To Shove", cited by the needlessly recurring Mr. Vai as his favorite solo ever.
...mind, I'd still go for "Eruption". Nothing before or since has beat it for "Holy shit, what the f**k is that?".
Making friends the old fashioned way part 6:
BTW, Mr. Dimitar, I would point out that you're not quite there, and need to deflate your head a bit...you've got a straight-up Vai homage style, except your phrasing is pretty poor, and the composition of the pieces is unimaginative. Get over it/yourself.

I stopped myself from thinking so it would hit me fast, & what popped into my head almost immediately is Iommi's solo on the 'Born Again' track.
I really dig slowhand soloing, & that track stuck way out for me.
2nd place: The solo in the funkish part of PF's 'Echoes'..damn good stuff there..
Sleek..what are you trying to do? Have you EVER met a guitarist with a deflated Head?
How's the guy gonna get laid if he looks like this onstage!?

I saw Yngwie in Steeler, Alcatraz and Solo....all three shows were like his solo work...identical, yes he's fast, the scalloped neck makes his solo's stand out, the same classical sound is cool, the first 10 times you see him throw his guitar in the air is cool too (but has little to do with playing)...but IMHO as Gary Moore is one of the most underrated guitatists Yngwie was one of the most overrated. His album inspirations easily could be his best work, if wasn't for the identical solos....
BTW tune your guitar to open G and see how much easier his stuff is, though that's only one of his tunings, but that is one of the true skillful things he does...

Mate GB is the f**king don my friend. Aint nobody wield the axe like that man. That scatting thing he does is amazing.Sascha Franck wrote:All of Scott Henderson's stuff. Unfortunately the music (especially with Tribal Tech) sucks ass.
And all of George Benson's stuff too. Unfortunately a lot of his music sucks ass too. The housewife's musical wallpaper.
Technically, Satch is the man. He may be a prime fret board wanking, cock rocking tit... but he is probably the most impressing guitarist Iv ever heard. Some of the solo's on 'Surfing with the Alien' were pretty mind blowing.
Also, with cock rock in mind, the 'No Women Allowed' solo is pretty crazy. Iv heard so many people claim this solo to be 'piece of piss', but Im yet to hear somebody melber it.
Actually, there are some nice solo's on Nuno's artist album, Schizophonic. As much as i dont like Extreme, I do like Nuno as a solo artist.

I haven't got any of that PIL stuff!!! Must find and add to my pile of Steve.
@sleek month
I think you may have misread Dimitar's shameless self promotion and cheek as ego.
I sincerely hope it isn't, but there is also no need to attack anyone. I dunno, Dimitar is a perpetually happy and enthusiastic dude. Mebbe a little disillusioned but his hearts in the right place... I think.

'Push comes to shove'..
Well said, that's in my top 5, I f**king love that song..you just want that track to go & go & go..but it's so short; when it startes getting REALLY intresting they cut the f**king faders..
Crazy energy in the best way..

Can't be arsed to read the whole thread but I was always partial to Dire Straits "Sultan's of Swing" solo.
Lyrics are sort of shitty though.

I agree, that is a nice solo. Knoffler's stuff does tend to leave me a bit cold, but you cant argue with solo's like that. I also love his sounds - both his Strat and Paul tones are classic. Does anyone know how to get that Les Paul sound? I heard it was a funny wah pedal setting through a JTM45.

many guitarists leave the wah at about halfway when soloing.tee boy wrote:I agree, that is a nice solo. Knoffler's stuff does tend to leave me a bit cold, but you cant argue with solo's like that.
