Thanks for the info. I think I paid about $10 for 2 or 3 and they are small, maybe 2cm total size. I generally run my decent stomp through the same gear as my guitar and it sounds great. Size and perhaps undipped are the issues. Might give a larger size a try.whyterabbyt wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 10:20 amJust the bog-standard cheapo disc elements. Ive got a few that are about 3.5cm? diameter, so built a couple with them, but most of the ones Ive just made are the smallest (1.5cm?) ones, and a couple of an in-between size. The larger they are, the better the frequency response, I believe.
I dip them in liquid rubber to reduce the tinny-ness a wee bit, but the main thing wrt bass response is that they're very high impedance, and are basically HPF'd on regular inputs, so, in the absence of an appropriate preamp, I run them into a Hi-Z input. (though Ive also got two Mikrophonie Eurorack modules)
some info on the impedance thing here:

Today will hopefully complete restoring all my plugins and get my hardware/software config back to where it was, lots of user mapping stuff. Then back it all up and remember to validate the damned backup this time!

i could also do with working out which bloody frame rate will not require changing it for a different application
every video file i open in something else, is wrong!!!!
it's as bad as all the different bloody sample rates for samplers.
can't you all just agree on one????
help a user out!!!

Spent the entire day working on stuff yesterday.
Cubase is taking an obscene amount of time to load, often it just crashes and has to be reloaded multiple times.
Have used Cubase since the beginning, its about time they solved this problem so many experience.

Spent the morning getting my SE-1X racked, integrated into the studio, and set up in my Logic hardware template, tidied up the place, took some pics for the studio pics thread, and now it’s time to mow the lawn and other weekend chores.

That article/interview with Tim Prebble really got me going deeper into contact mics, back when it came out. Excellent tips/tricks. Tim is an inspiration.morelia wrote: Fri Jul 08, 2022 8:29 amThanks for the info. I think I paid about $10 for 2 or 3 and they are small, maybe 2cm total size. There is a reference to an interview with Alan Splet & Anne Krober about their work on the film Dune, that link appears to be dead (in my browser), but this one works.

These are not cheap (though cheaper than some), and are excellent.
