If you bother to read the whole thread, it is definitely the majority opinion.
in MY opinion, this is a really well-designed synth.
Who cares how well it's designed, it doesn't sound any good.
You come across as a bit of a misanthrope. Lighten up.
Why? So you can all feel better about how pathetic you are?
This plugin has a great sequencer.
Better than the hosts we all use it in?
Good FX section.
Like about 50 other VSTi on my SSD.
It even has an undo history which is a bit rare. Ergonomically sound. WIll get lots out of this I reckon :)
Undo history is, indeed, a very nice feature and, like Pigments, the workflow is very good. But IT STILL DOESN"T SOUND VERY GOOD so none of that other stuff matters.
Cyforce wrote: Wed Jan 18, 2023 5:58 amIt`s a great synth (and greatly designed), fully agree. Especially the hardware version, place it in contrast to synths with a similar structure - e.g. Waldorf Blofeld. Maybe 50 bucks cheaper, but no keyboard, fuzzy annoying menu diving, and no editor in general...
Blofeld is nothing like MiniFreak. Blofeld has 25 voices and is 16 part multi-timbral, so it's like 4 MiniFreaks in one little steel box. It also has three oscillators per voice and dual filters. The keyboard version has more keys, too, and they are full-sized.

The closest comparison I can think of is the Modal Cobalt 5S, which is a couple of hundred bucks cheaper, but is actually better featured than MiniFreak. OK, MF has one more voice but the Cobalt has 40 algorithms to MF's 22. Cobalt's sequencer is also 512 note, compared to MF's 64. The 5 axis touchpad is also pretty hard to beat. And all for 2/3 of the price.

I love how Minifreak sounds, it is my favorite synth right now. Sorry to break the consensus.

If it has microtuning, I will get it, if not, I do not pay even 49 Euro.

It is from my favourite synths now also :) I just finished another round with it on M1 Mac and it performs great (similar to my Ryzen/Windows PC).

I like a lot the details in the sound. The presets are wonderful and suits my taste and music. Weird but lovely weird sounds. It also can do bread and butter sounds, but this is not its strength IMO.

Arturia did a great job with this synth! Well done
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Insta buy for me, also got a nice deal to get it with an upgrade for V collection (189€ from v4) so I went with that.

I love the sound and the simplicity of this thing. Pigments can be little too complicated for certain operations so Minifreak will fit in great.

There's no helping it, all you can do is take a step back and observe the crazy from a safe distance
Always Read the Manual!

Pigments is a completely other beast, with other oscillator and more filter. Only the visualisation comes close.

Its much simpler with set waves for the 2 oscilators. A remake of their hardware version.

Pigments has many different synthesis modes (wavetable. granular, analog, sample), additional sub osc and noise oscillators and is more complex in all aspects.

thx a lot guys, i wonder (of course i dont need to :D) if i would buy Minifreak what it can what pigments cannot, just out of interest ;).

The oscillator modes sound more interesting and unique than Pigments imo, they're quite characterful. Pigments is a great, flexible synth but it doesn't really scream with character. I can get really cool sounds out of Minifreak with minimal tweaking.

.. just demoing the synth and I'm selecting a note in the sequencer section but there is no option to select an engine per note .... must be well hidden from view .. or ..?? is it actually possible to do that ....dont ...think so...right ??
Sounds like a very cool feature ... but hey ... where is it ..? Cheers..
Just under the velocity lane in the sequencer there are automation lanes where you can select whatever you want. Just click on "none" and then select the parameter, the engine selection in this case.
correct - but it does not work for every selected note - only one engine in the sequencer can be selected..[(not note)*(corrected)]

MiniFreak has format osc, waveshaper ocs, cooler FM. In my opinion MiniFreak is quite versatile but in a easier way than Pigments. Cool synth.

I picked it up for 49e (I have the v9 collection).
I like it! It's really gnarly for bass and is pretty versatile overall. Good job Arturia.
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.
