Sonic Projects OP-X Pro 3 released

I'm basing my initial opinion solely on the Youtube video:
I have version 2 of this product from back when I used Windows for audio. Back then, it was quite ground breaking. As I listen to the examples on the video, my thinking is thus:
1. I can't really tell what has improved in the sound since version 2. It still sounds good to me. However, if I were to compare it to Diva or Repro, I think I would still choose the sound of Diva or Repro over the sound of OP-X Pro 3. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I'll try. I don't have a problem with the actual sounds--they sound good. It's just that I think the OP-X Pro 3 sounds cleaner and brighter than Diva or Repro....or even the actual Oberheim OB-Xa.
Compare:
Again, maybe it's how it each was recorded, but there seems to be something lacking when compared to an actua OB-Xa--could it be bass equalizing --not enough bottom end compared to the original? Lack of harmonics? I'm not sure, and I'm not sure how to describe it. Furthermore, it isn't with every patch. Some patches on the OP-X sound great! This is about the best I can say based off of just youtube videos.
2. The brown GUI doesn't really bother me, as long as it scales up big enough for my 4k laptop monitor. I do prefer blue, however.
3. Price: Since I already own the previous version, the upgrade price is very nice. Approximately $35-40 US. Buying it new however, requires one to consider other similarly priced synths.
Summary: I don't know!
As previously mentioned, I use Linux and already have Diva, Repro, and Dexed. That covers a lot of legendary synth sounds. Do I NEED an upgraded version of OP-X Pro? Probably not. However, if someone doesn't have any of the U-he (or comparable) synths, this would be a very nice addition to someone's toolset.

Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

In a preset play-through video, I love the presets that had "sync" in their name: Unison Supersync, OB-Xa Unisync, Prophet 5 Whmod Sync, OB Percussive Sync II, and so on. The "OBX Unison Lead" is tastey, too.
Would those who know this synth well--as compared to others--say OP-X Pro 3 has a knack for this type of patch? I don't know that Diva can do it as well. Repro maybe?

Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

OB-Xa and OB-X are absolutely not the same synth. The OB-Xa is way more fat and agressive.audiojunkie wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:29 am

This is a fair comparison OP-X Pro II vs original Oberheim OB-X

Not sure what they improved but they had the hardware OB-X 95% nailed in version one and their A/B videos prove it. I saw something about V3 oversampling. Maybe 0df filters as well.

He played so many wrong notes and didn't even bother to match the voice panning.Gam456 wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 2:46 amOB-Xa and OB-X are absolutely not the same synth. The OB-Xa is way more fat and agressive.audiojunkie wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:29 am

Blue skin needs to come back ASAP.
Looks like the PRO-MTX version is just oversampled, which he says makes it smoother, more polished, and brighter.

By the sounds of tings, there are a few people on KVR who could do with being oversampled.
''smoother, more polished, and brighter.''
''smoother, more polished, and brighter.''

I may be being completely dim but I can't install OP-X 3 because I keep running into an error message telling me to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64)", which I have, but it still tells me I need to install it!
Anybody else run into this or can help me? Ta.

Tick to install it (even though you have it), it'll 'fail' but then go back to the screen saying something along the lines of: 'the VC++ install has failed but that's because you already have it so ignore this error, all is fine and it's now installed'synaesthesia wrote: Thu Dec 14, 2023 10:51 am I may be being completely dim but I can't install OP-X 3 because I keep running into an error message telling me to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64)", which I have, but it still tells me I need to install it!

I don't know but, I think I'm losing the will to live here...mcbpete wrote: Thu Dec 14, 2023 10:58 amTick to install it (even though you have it), it'll 'fail' but then go back to the screen saying something along the lines of: 'the VC++ install has failed but that's because you already have it so ignore this error, all is fine and it's now installed'synaesthesia wrote: Thu Dec 14, 2023 10:51 am I may be being completely dim but I can't install OP-X 3 because I keep running into an error message telling me to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64)", which I have, but it still tells me I need to install it!
So, I finally got past the Microsoft Visual C++ issue and got to the end of the install process, only to find that OP-X 3 isn't in the VST3 folder on my PC (as claimed in the installation notes). I have no idea where it is! Gah.
Never had this much trouble with a synth install before.

I now realise that I had downloaded OP-X Pro II again because of their impossibly weird website AND that for some reason they've registered OP-X Pro III to a new user ID!
I need a lie down...
Sorry for the interruption!
