Sadly no, but he did spend 8 weeks on the East German Industrial Chart or something while being a bad rip off of Nine Inch Nails, which we are supposed to be impressed with or something

Before updating, is everybody happy with 24H2 now? No major regressions for audio use?

Of course not, when have there ever been?

Took me hours of tweaking to get it back to 23H2 performance. But that doesn’t mean it will for everyone.tlr wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 3:07 pm Before updating, is everybody happy with 24H2 now? No major regressions for audio use?

Any particular issues too look out for, or were there just general performance issues, e.g new background services causing problems?vitocorleone123 wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 7:00 am Took me hours of tweaking to get it back to 23H2 performance. But that doesn’t mean it will for everyone.
I’m a bit vary the midex8 driver will break again, but it’s pretty hard to assess how different the actual os core is in 24H2. Maybe it’s just polish?

Moore's law isn't entirely dead. It appeared to be for a while, but nope, it's not quite dead yet.IvyBirds wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2025 2:34 am Computer technology is changing and evolving and getting better and better all the while Moore's law is dead and has been for a while, it took Intel five years to go from 14-nanometer technology (2014) to 10-nanometer technology (2019), rather than the two years Moore’s Law would predict. That started a decade ago and Moore's Law crashed and burned and is no longer relevant
Some things have not changed much: clock frequency, nanometer tech. What did happen though is we got more cores for roughly the same price, and if you want more power then Apple Silicon chips are an option. x86 architecture is not as dominant as before, it's moving to RISC / ARM architecture: less transistors doing similar work.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Tweaking what? Please can you provide more details? Genuinely asking. I never experienced performance regression so I want to learn more even though it doesn't affect me (for now). Kindly, please more details.vitocorleone123 wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 7:00 amTook me hours of tweaking to get it back to 23H2 performance. I’m a bit vary the midex8 driver will break again, but it’s pretty hard to assess how different the actual os core is in 24H2. Maybe it’s just polish?
The first time I updated it broke stuff and I didn’t want to deal with it so I rolled back for 4 months.
It still broke stuff but I planned ahead when I did it again. One thing was S1 that broke but that worked better the second time. Another is a lot of plugins that don’t use ilok had to be reauthorized because a lot of software considered the update to be a new operating system.
The there was the latency issues. Some of that is due to me using a 9950X. Some of that was that it overwrote existing tweaks. Some of it, I think, is just that 24H2 is slightly more problematic for audio.
I ended up needing Process Lasso and doing more registry tweaks to try to tame Defender and other tools and such beyond the few I’d used before.

Kinda tired of the fan boy lies.BertKoor wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 7:59 am if you want more power then Apple Silicon chips are an option.
If you want similar performance, with less power draw, in a closed ecosystem, at a very high premium, Apple Silicone is an option.
Went back 2 gens on the Intel to give you a single core win.

Ok, good to know. Will plan for some potential down time. I do have some issues with 23H2 still anyway so it might not be all that different. I think there are some background processes messing around, occasionally causing glitches. Hard to know as I don't really have a clear view on what's on by default besides what is listed a services.vitocorleone123 wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 1:01 pmDefinitely back up an image first.tlr wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 7:25 am Any particular issues too look out for, or were there just general performance issues, e.g new background services causing problems?

Found this: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-compone ... r-registry
I do have a WD Black SSD, but not one of those specific variants listed I think.

Like what? Stop t5hinkign you need to tweak everything to get teh performance you need, let the OS do it's f**king job and you'll be fine.vitocorleone123 wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 1:01 pmDefinitely back up an image first. S1? If you mean Studio One, I had zero issues with it after the upgrade, just like always. It still broke stuff but I planned ahead when I did it again. One thing was S1 that broke but that worked better the second time.
Again, never happens to me. Do you have third party virus protection? I'd be looking at that if you do. If not, maybe dial back your security level a notch or two.Another is a lot of plugins that don’t use ilok had to be reauthorized because a lot of software considered the update to be a new operating system.

The f**king Windows default settings are tweaked for power saving, not real-time audio.BONES wrote: Sun Mar 23, 2025 11:19 pm Like what? Stop t5hinkign you need to tweak everything to get teh performance you need, let the OS do it's f**king job and you'll be fine.
