I take the opposite approach. I am a very tough grader. That way, the really standout tracks, the ones that actually deserve to win, finish on top. Otherwise, if you give everybody high scores, you're doing a disservice to those who really came up with something special. That's why I only gave 2 tracks 5 stars.Viroo wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2026 4:08 pmRanking is always such a pain. That’s why I’ve actually become more generous over time. It’s really hard sometimes to distribute the points fairly. So I often prefer to round up instead of rounding downdwringer wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2026 2:27 pm Voted. Not that I ever enjoy* the task having to rank music I scarcely understand into almost arbitrary tiers. It's always a pleasure to see the different approaches and experimentation that comes from these!
[EDIT: I enjoy the listening, not so much the ranking]![]()

Voted!
Really cool to see what everyone came up with using the synth
I found it difficult to vote, there's quite some variety going on that isn't easy to put into a one-dimensional point ranking!
Sorry I haven't commented on every track, I still find it difficult to come up with useful comments sometimes. There were tracks with really good and creative sound design, getting stuff out of my synth that I didn't even explore yet ... I also find that I really appreciate some of the more experimental and unusual compositions, really cool!

The rules encourage commenting on songs on SC.
If you open a song on SC. It allows adding a comment. Might be anything from positive impressions to constructive feedback.
It's not mandatory, though.

I really struggle with writing feedback that aren't just "i like this".
I'm not experienced enough to give actual meaningful feedback; my thoughts on a track might be helpful, dumb, or noob level stuff, and I just don't know enough to self-critique my critiques competently

That's partially why comments aren't required: even though they're encouraged, the simple fact is that a lot of songs may be just average to a particular listener and not warrant any positive or negative comment.NastyNasty wrote: Tue Jun 16, 2026 7:57 am I really struggle with writing feedback that aren't just "i like this".

Especially as a noob however, you should (if you choose to) look out for moments that are especially positive, or especially "constructive" (negative, but in a helpful way).
TLDR: you can comment only when something stands out

Well, at least I didn't finish last. Now I remember why I stopped entering these things. Congrats to the winners. See you in maybe another 10 years.
