You do not have to rely on just soundfonts with sfz. With sfZed you can also build your own multi-layered instruments, with wav files, in the sfz format. It also has a tremendous amount of audio shaping and modulation features. Like I said... it's not to everyones liking. But then again I'm a big fan of apps like Total Commander, PowerPro and Foobar2000 so I like apps that let you roll your sleeves up and get "under the hood"... so to speak.BONES wrote:Its a soundfont player, that's all. Sampler loads SF2, Akai, Kurzweil and wav's. And you can build your own multi-layered instruments with it. It also has a great synth section to play it all through, with sidechaining of the filter's cutoff frequency. It also has the most accurate rendering ever. The're chalk and cheese.
I pretty much disregarded this when I first tried but I have since given it a second try and with the help of sfZed it is now my current favorite sampler. I really can't recommend it enough.
You might want to give it another try. It has some of the cleanest pitch shifting capabilities I've ever heard. Of course, and this isn't a slur (I promise), since you produce Industrial music you may like to use aliasing as a distortion effect.
Depends on what you mean as better. Anyway, it's still under development... time will tell.BONES wrote:So it sounds as good [maybe] but has fewer features. Therefore, it would be reasonable to assume that its not better.antti Augur
May not have a better interface or better features but I think it probably sounds very comparable.
I took the A in "V/A" to mean analogue. Sorry if I misunderstood. And you did say "better sounding" not more feature laden.BONES wrote:Tried this a while ago and it does nothing for me at all. Who cares if it sounds analogue, I just want instruments that sound good. Its also down an LFO [and 5 destinations], two envelopes, several filter modes and a distortion effect when compared to WaspXT.
I'm actually not a big fan of Crystal but it's the only "free wave-sequencing synth" I could think of offhand.BONES wrote:Maybe, if you don't care about how your filters sound.Green Oak Crystal Again, perhaps not better... certainly comparable.
Well, coming from you I take that as a major compliment!BONES wrote:So maybe you score half a point out of four, but only because I am feeling generous.

Since when? BeatSlicer used to cost extra.Jaeson Merrill wrote:FL chops things up.. for free.
Except the ability to play multisampled instruments like every plugin that people call a sampler.and tons of other stuff in its sampler.

of course, theres other things free that can do multisampled instruments.. its really not that big of a deal anymore...BONES wrote:Since when? beatslicer costs money, yes, as well as beat creator, but the fruity slicer is free and does just about the same thing (beatslicer allows for fine tuning certain things) -- and i slice up beats splendidly in FL slicer, which also now uses the FL time stretching engine (elastique)
so, yes, its free. and with better functionality then a couple years ago.

Fruity Slicer (which works directly in FLS) has been free at least since FLS 4.12, AFAIR.BONES wrote:Since when? BeatSlicer used to cost extra.Jaeson Merrill wrote:FL chops things up.. for free.

It's always been free, but the functionality of it has only recently been improved. I'm talking about being able to add or remove slices.Fruity Slicer (which works directly in FLS) has been free at least since FLS 4.12, AFAIR.
However, I continue to be amazed that it still does not allow for muliple outputs of slices.

You can create multisampled instruments using the Layer function. Either a cumbersome or flexible approach... depending on how you want to look at it.BONES wrote:Except the ability to play multisampled instruments like every plugin that people call a sampler.

Evan: The only problem with Orion (imo) is that you have to aniticipate how large that solo is going to be and type in how many bars the pattern should be before you record it. I know some Orion users have been pressing for more flexible pattern sizing.
Personally, I found Tracktion the nicest for more freeform music. A clip (e.g., for a solo instrument) is as long as you like and appears as a preview on the timeline. Whereas in FLStudio, you have to have that particular channel selected just to see what's in it. Otherwise you'll be staring at a long grey bar which won't tell you very much...
