it certainly wont stop after the line in the sand, but yes i do indeed have a target for the next release. i'm really wanting to get gsoto's gui implemented along with my event routing stuff and "chunks" project data storage. at that point i'll be able to release the next beta and i think a TON of people will be able to use xhip without a hitch at that point. it'll be cool to post (finally!) a working version on kvr's news page.

just me 2 cents..

kvr is so gui centric it's utterly boring, if the mods would run a script to delete all post relating only to gui talk, (and
upgrades paths :hihi: ), there wouldn't be half of it left ...

More GUI talk. :hihi:

So I opened 2 x adxhip.0.6.14.8c in eXT and was surprised (I don't know why) to see such responsive slider animation when automating via Digital Peak Meter Pro.

Thanks again.

It lacks some wood.

The user interface is, believe it or not, kinda important . I've already stated that I think Aciddose's synth is awesome but here's just two examples, of many, for you to ponder:

Voyager - another brilliant synth, seemingly hardly used because the interface put so many people off, a promised reskin never happened, and hence it laungishes in relative obscurity. Not exactly a huge number of users, designing patches to highlight it's brilliance.

Oatmeal - described by it's own author as 'mediocre' it was raised to the status of brilliance by the skinning talents of Yeager, Grymjack, ArtVera et al. Huge numbers of users, with a shitload of patches, prove that the dev's original estimation of his work was massively underestimated.

Like it or not appealingly tactile, haptic functionality can make or break any idea.

"Voyager - ..." - what was wrong with it's gui?

"Oatmeal - ... Yeager, Grymjack, ArtVera et al. ..." - anybody who wants to do a gui is free to do so. i've even provided source code that they can use under the condition that they release all derivative works either to the public domain or to me. (though, they cant include works copyright to me. i'm merely stating they can release their amendments and not the original sources.)

i like the gui it has, what is wrong with the current gui?
nobody seems to know and this means i cant do anything about it.
okay, just started playing with it again, and what i notice immediately is this: the gui is simply too small. i know you're not a fan of synth1, but maybe you could offer different some different options for size like it does.

further, having the name of the control listed right on the slider it controls makes it tough to read sometimes. i suppose once you get used to the synth, you know where stuff is and don't read the controls so much, but at first, it's kind of a pain to have to read a white font that's too small and is sometimes on top of a light color slider.

so that's what i think is wrong with the gui. take it or leave it, but at least i offered an opinion. other than the size and readibility of the fonts, it's not so bad.

Post

which version were you using? it's all customizable and the gui can be set to any size you like with any font you like, any colors, and so on. the styles can even be changed - you can have a 3d look to controls, or have them flat. you can apply colors related to sections, or have a fixed scheme for everything. you can use flat backgrounds, shaded backgrounds, or you can generate textures or use even jpgs for textures.

i hope you werent using adxhip.0.6.14.8b.dll since that was just made to demonstrate why a gui like that seen in voyager is so difficult to use. you might be surprised but a majority of people ask me to make the gui look exactly like voyager.

so what would you figure the sizes should be? give me the names and numbers and i'll get it compiled in no time. it's just i cant read everyone's mind and very few people are willing to learn to do this themselves, so if you want it to be done you just need to tell me exactly what it is you want done.

I just started playing with this VST [and VSTs in general], and since we're talking about GUI stuff, the tabbed interface really saves me from being overwhelmed by 1000 sliders.

More stuff should have those, IMO.

Post

using adxhip.0.6.12.0.dll. is that the latest?
aciddose wrote:it's all customizable and the gui can be set to any size you like with any font you like, any colors, and so on.
please tell me how to do this.

also, how about making a double-click or ctrl-click return a slider to 0 or a default position?

Post

well that is partially implemented using some files, download the .ini files from the releases section on the site. they're plain text and by looking at them you should learn how to customize some of the colors. in order to customize the rest of the parameters i'll need to add a bit of stuff to the code. currently only the 'box' objects use the class data passed from those files but in the future i'd like all objects to have their parameters set using that method. i have a few little issues i'm working out with that stuff and it isnt really ready for prime time - also i havent been extremely motivated to get it working since nobody complains all that often.

otherwise, all that stuff can be changed by hand in the code. if you dont want to do it i can but you'll have to describe the changes you want made so i can make them for you.

http://xhip.cjb.net/xhip/releases/v0/b6 ... 6.14.8.dll is the latest - always check the releases section on the site for the latest version. the version is release.beta.alpha.revision. the newest version will be the one with the highest number with numbers of greater importance on the left.

"also, how about making a double-click or ctrl-click return a slider to 0 or a default position?"

ctrl-click should work. if left click isnt working use right click.

any chance you can just put the latest release by itself at the top with a little bit of text that says "this is the latest release"? as it is now, the adxhip.0.6.14.8.dll is 18th in a list of other stuff. not very intuitive for finding the latest release.beta.alpha.revision.

the problem with working on the gui myself is i know nothing about programming. looked at the .ini files for different gui colors, and i wouldn't even know what values are appropriate to try.

probably not a technical enough request for you, but i'd be happy is the current gui were 35% bigger. everything. buttons, sliders, fonts, main window. maybe such a simple request won't compute to you, but that's the best i can do.

Post

i'll give it a try but probably it wont be ready until tommorow.
