Quick test - BETA PG8X-04-11 Win32 (WinXP SP3 + MiniHost, Win7 x86 + SAVIHost)
Loading/Import:
* .syx (single patch)
Works, to any program number.
* .syx (bank)
1. Works, but only to program number 1-32.
So, if you don`t want to loose your patches on program 1-32, you have to press "Rotate Banks" before loading a new .syx bank.
2. After loading a syx bank, Program Nr. is 32
* .PG8Xpreset
Works, to any program number, but doesn`t show the program name!
You have to click on the "display" to see the name and hit enter to get it.
* .PG8Xbank
No .PG8Xbank file to test, see below.
Saving:
* .PG8Xpreset
When you hit SAVE -> PG8Xpreset, nothing happens! No dialog box.
Only when you click on PG8Xbank. Then you can save *.PG8Xpreset file !?
* .PG8Xbank
Saves .PG8Xpreset not .PG8Xbank!
Other:
Maybe an option to turn off mouseover info.

Thanks for the report.

Yes, this is the case, and is caused by the specific format of the Sysex files: The JX8P does not support bulk dumps, so the sysex banks contain a sequence of TONE data followed by a WRITE to memory instruction. The fact that most available JX8P sysex banks only contain presets 1-32 is because (without the cartridge) only the first 32 presets could be edited by the user.RexXx wrote:Quick test - BETA PG8X-04-11 Win32 (WinXP SP3 + MiniHost, Win7 x86 + SAVIHost)

A bug I accidentally introduced literally1 minute before positing the beta, when trying to fix another bug (which lead to a crash). Will be fixed in the next version.* .PG8Xbank

Not quite sure what you mean. Do you want to be able to switch off the display of parameter names and values when hovering over a control?Other:

No, no, nomartin_l wrote: Not quite sure what you mean. Do you want to be able to switch off the display of parameter names and values when hovering over a control?
I meant the white mouseover (help) popups like "Click for Program Change" and "Click to change Program Name".

Martin, once more, for the usability by everybody including the musicians having a strong eyesight impairment, could we have much more contrasts in the colors of the GUI?
A much more dark background like the dark grey currently used at the bottom would be very nice for all the area of the GUI.
This synth is wonderful... but like many others it has the huge default of a GUI having not enough contrasts for the eyesight impaired persons.
And also there's a huge place which is lost at the bottom while the colored squares should be much greater and with a much readable size of the characters.
I permanently ask for a change in the habits of the developers about this aspect of the developments, an aspect totally neglected though very important. Please read this recent post I've made which explains perfectly all the problem that these GUI's without contrasts put to the strong eyesight impaired musicians:

If you understand how much it is very important to change these habits by now, we shall strongly thank you!

(tested on WinXP SP3 + MiniHost, Win7 x86 + SAVIHost, Win7 x64 + S1 x64)
Loading and saving of .PG8Xpreset and .PG8Xbank are now working correctly on my systems!
The loading .PG8Xpreset program name bug is also fixed!
Additional tested:

* Loading sysex still works
Thanks, Martin
.

glad to report preset and bank saving also appears to work fine on my systems as well,
also noticed the plug uses 3.7 - 4.0% cpu at idle under savihost on my core2 duo extreme 3ghz hp mobile workstation.
not a biggie but perhaps could be lowered after the bigger bugs are squished!

I tried to load the latest version in VstHost running in Windows XP 32-bit and it doesn't load
If I insist in loading it, I get a really bad crash. Did you broke compatibility with Windows XP? I didn't have any issue before.
EDIT: A mistake. I downloaded a bad file from DropBox (cannot use the right button there). I downloaded correctly now, and everything is fine, so far
EDIT 2: The new background is much better, and also looks nicer, but I liked the old font better (not just does it loook better, it's also more readable, IMO). Also, the buttons in the base panel definitely have to be revised. I simply had to take a guess on what red button did what, since they are positively unreadable to me. Even in the other buttons, the text is so small that it's hard to say what's written there.
Besides, they just don't fit the rest of the GUI, and they are ugly as hell.
The sound is great, but unfortunately I have to reprogram all the patches I did before, since the FXP/FXB files are no longer compatible (I guess that's the fate of using a WIP software).

Which version are you referring to? The font changed from the old SE version to the native version, and then in the latest batch of beta's (since a week or so) I changed the fonts again.fmr wrote:

I will definitely rework those buttons, in particular the fonts in them. Probably I will use white font on the darker colours, and make then a bit larger so that I can accommodate slightly larger fonts.Also, the buttons in the base panel definitely have to be revised. I simply had to take a guess on what red button did what, since they are positively unreadable to me. Even in the other buttons, the text is so small that it's hard to say what's written there.
I will stick with the overall look of them, as they are supposed to resemble the rubber buttons on the hardware, but I agree that they need more work on the details.Besides, they just don't fit the rest of the GUI, and they are ugly as hell.
Again, which version did you use to program these banks?The sound is great, but unfortunately I have to reprogram all the patches I did before, since the FXP/FXB files are no longer compatible (I guess that's the fate of using a WIP software).
If it is the old Synthedit version (1.02) there is a way (albeit a bit painful) to transfer them. I will post that method once everything is finished.
Right now I do not want to encourage anybody to work on patch banks, as the bank format might still change a bit. Remember, it is still a beta version.
Cheers,
Martin
