If TAL Software releases a JX-8P/MKS-70 emulation that can load SysEx patches from the original synths, as has been rumored, then all of this PG-8X drama will be a thing of the past. It's too bad the developer of PG-8X didn't either sell the code to another developer or make it open source. Because now he won't get any money for his hard work, or have the satisfaction of seeing his creation live on. PG-8X will be a footnote in the history of synth plugins like the wavesequencing plugin from Steinberg (or maybe it was only distributed by Steinberg). I can't even remember its name. But that's my point.

Sounds so good, such a pity... But the TAL thingy seems to be a very good replacement. This synth however had its own behaviour and character. Time to move on now...

Unless TAL’S isn’t as good as PG-8X. If TAL doesn’t support sysex, if they don’t do the chorus right, if it ends up sounding more like Roland’s zencore approximation of the Jx-8P, PG-8X would still be a thing. Also, the PG-8X guy could still come out with his own version and have success purely because of PG-8X’s reputation. I know I would be interested and most likely purchase his version of a PG-8X V2.

Im sure TALs will be incredible and probably have a few more tricks up its sleeve.
Martins PG8x is a classic n sounds almost identical to and in some cases or patches even better. There’s room for both to co exist in your planet right ?

Seems unlikely. His emulations are some of the best, perhaps even *the* best. And he usually adds features without compromising the original designs.hurricaneaudiolab wrote: Mon Apr 21, 2025 10:07 am Unless TAL’S isn’t as good as PG-8X. What if pg-8x sounds actually better (read different) than a jx-8p ? TAL’s one will sound worse than pg-8x and the drama will last !

IMO, PG-8X still holds its ground as probably the most accurate emulation of any hardware synth to date. If Martin were to suddenly drop an update - maybe modernize the interface, add a U-he-style browser, I'd be super interested even if Tal's is awesome, which it most likely will be.

the only thing I'm sure of, sadly, is that the drama will last, no matter what, forever.SebAV wrote: Mon Apr 21, 2025 7:19 pm What if pg-8x sounds actually better (read different) than a jx-8p ? TAL’s one will sound worse than pg-8x and the drama will last !

I copied the vst file into folder /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST and did the steps you described. But nothing happend. I also checked the Plug-In Manager but couldn't see PG8X.hurricaneaudiolab wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 3:18 pm Run Logic in Rosetta mode - PG8X will validate. Close Logic and open in native mode. Done.
Also the standalone app doesn't give any output.

As I only what you try out PG-8X I don't what to buy another plugin only to get this running. I wouldn't have any other usage for the metaplugin.koho wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 10:26 am The only thing that worked for me was DDMF Metaplugin. It is not free, and not exactly cheap but it is a very useful plugin, especially for oversampling plugins without that option in Logic.
Thanks.
