I have to admit, I am very impressed by the sound of this synth. Sounds awesome. However, most of what I have heard have been typically edm-ish. Is it also suitable for more underground genres like Techno and Tech House?

If you understand synthesis, know the genre well, and can program sounds, yes. If not, no. The presets are not geared towards those genres.Ohlson_M wrote:I have to admit, I am very impressed by the sound of this synth. Sounds awesome. In other words, prepare to get your hands dirty.

Hell, i made a Dub (proper psychedelic 80's 'mad professor' style dub) patch over 8 layers (for fun).
Also, some weird IDM is very possible.

Just out of curiosity, how was CPU load using those 8 layers?exmatproton wrote:Yes.Ohlson_M wrote:I have to admit, I am very impressed by the sound of this synth. Sounds awesome. What sounds are typically used in these genres? When I think about techno filtered low-pitched minor or suspended chords come to my mind, I guess you could easily make this stuff in Rapid by using 3-6 oscillators tuned to different chord steps, and then processing it with its filters and FX.Ohlson_M wrote:I have to admit, I am very impressed by the sound of this synth. If anything I've made a bunch of psytrance sounds and even a copule of small psytrance songs with Rapid.

You can use lfo without binding to bmp speed, so you get fastest modulation possible, if i remember correctly Rapid has pretty fast modulation. Use two different waves in a Single LFO section and modulate the morphing knob in the lfo section. Then set those FM parameters in OSC fx section as destination.recursive one wrote:I mean the carrier/modulator design where both can be any waveform. E.g., Dicovery Pro (and i think Nordlead too) allows using different shapes for the modulator osc, such as saw, square, etc. Virus TI and Serum use the same design but have much more waveforms available for the modulator.Igro wrote:Not sure what do you mean by true FM. You already now can FM any wave. In fact, what musical benefits you get by modulating wavatable with wavatable? Lol. By now you can fm any wave with sine, which is the most musical way.recursive one wrote:If anything, I vote for true FM between oscillators like in Serum before any other additions.
However, if your point was to have various waves as a source for modulation, you can do this already now. Just midulate the fm knob with LFO!
I don't agree that only sine may be useful as the modulator, I often make sounds in Virus where I use saw or a transition between sine and saw for that, and in this Serum tutorial the guy does exactly what you are talking about - modulates a WT with a WT (look at 1:00)
I recreated this sound in Rapid using LFO to pitch modulation but since I didn't figure out how to properly keytrack the LFO rate the playability of my sound is restricted since the LFO rate always corresponds to note E (or it may change atonally) .
Afaik, the PM fx in Rapid is not exactly the same thing as FM, But yes, making other waveforms available as the modulator would be a great start.
Thanks, wil try this. How do I set up LFO rate and the modulation amount for starters?Igro wrote:However, if your point was to have various waves as a source for modulation, you can do this already now.Just midulate the fm knob with LFO!

But only if you really use all 8 layers with effects etc. RAPID has a better quality than most synth (antialiasing especcially for the oscs and distortions) and do't need as many cpu as other synth (serum, massive,...) do. so single layer sounds are really cheap. the trailer i build in the past has over 45 instances of RAPID and the cpu in the project doesn't go higher than 60%. so RAPID is a clean and CPU firendly synth.exmatproton wrote:Around 35~45%nordickvr wrote:Just out of curiosity, how was CPU load using those 8 layers?exmatproton wrote:Yes.Ohlson_M wrote:I have to admit, I am very impressed by the sound of this synth. Ow sure, i had delays, verbs, phasing and compressing going on as well + quite a high voice countMirko R. wrote:But only if you really use all 8 layers with effects etc. Would like to hear a cinematic piece (kind of the Dune 2 demo from Kevin Schroeder which is still the best i heard of this kind in a long long time).
However, i´m sure it could do it.....pssst....i know i asked several times....but macOS please.
Or at least give us at least a chance to have a longer sale if the macOS (or OSX) version comes next year.

There is a lot I like about this synth, but the demo limitations prevent me from buying it. Two of the selling points are its eight layers and the ability to create patches of your own quickly. The demo only allows two layers, so I have no idea if eight layers would really work well together or differently from other multi layer synths that I have. Twenty minutes is not enough time to build a complex layer from scratch and then use it to create even a short track. I need to know that RAPID will work in the kind of music I want to create.
This synth has a lot of potential. I implore the dev to provide a demo that allows us to see its true capabilities.

That´s indeed a bit odd. I would like to test it with a "maxed" out patch of my prefered style.ravasb wrote:There is a lot I like about this synth, but the demo limitations prevent me from buying it. Or it´s finally time to stop the GAS.....it´s my end

Exactly the answer I wanted to hear. And thank you to the rest of the guys who responded to my question.wagtunes wrote:If you understand synthesis, know the genre well, and can program sounds, yes. Even though the demo is very limited, I still managed to create some wonderful patches out of it. I can only image the possibilities with the full version. I find Rapid to be very straight forward, it doesn´t take much effort to create something useful, and it appears to be very stable. No crashes so far.
