I was tweaking some things for this group buy the other day in the studio and then I went to go see the movie Avatar. Spectacular visuals on that one! Just amazing. The script was cliche' (at least the predictable plot) and the soundtrack was "Twee" and commercial (I wish I could have scored a move like this. I would have made it "other worldly" like it should have been instead of "GI Joe/Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" meets "Titanic/Celine Dion"). James H is very talented but IMO doesn't take enough chances... or perhaps that is how he is directed/produced - I don't know. There were a few decent soundtrack moments but it was too pop and Earthy for such an "exotic world" they created visually. The music should have been just as unusual as what you saw. But, I still enjoyed it. A lot of typical contrived stuff in it but if you forgive that and just be a kid and watch it... it's fun.

You guys don't even know this but I have two screenplays I've been writing that are science fiction and in this sort of area of future-based "what if" fantasy... although mine don't have charicatures of "bad humans that don't seem to care about aliens" or such ignorant hostility toward the unknown. I think we deserve more credit than that personally. So the plausible nature of my stories will freak you out and perhaps inspire you! ...and if I get to do the soundtrack as well I promise not to go "twee and commercial"... if I have any say in the matter. I've never published a screenplay so I may not have a lot of say. But I do have an original plot for a romantic comedy OR a "Wedding Crashers"-type comedy that could be easier to do and help pave the way for the epic saga-type (or should I say Epik? Haha).

I actually met Spielberg once backstage at a show I was playing in... should have pitched him! I need to work on my elevator pitch skills if I'm going to get these movies made. Mega posts don't work in Hollywood. ;)

In the meantime, I've got some great sounds for you guys!

Actually, we do have the motherload of sounds for film (as much as we have drums) coming in Cinema Sessions and the FX Tron series but that is as off topic as this post!

Back to DRUMS! I'll update you later. I just had to wake up early to do something with my contact (npi) at NI before he leaves for vacation. A little something extra for you all that joined the group buy. You'll see!

Here, it's morning of the shortest day of the year. I wonder if we'll cross 400 today?

We're at 376 right now.

though it is gonna work out for me, i wonder if christmas is not the best time for a group buy like this.....i would wonder how many folks would jump on this if it weren't for that fact that christmas presents such a financial strain

just some thoughts

Cool Squidly! I'll look forward to hearing more about these as time goes by. You are one ambitious fellow.

And we're gonna have to hold you to that. ;-)

Dum da dum dum!

We love surprises. I'm already salivating and excited about all the great stuff we have coming already. But a little something extra is always good.

Have you checked when your credit card billing cycle ends? Just a thought.

Of course I want the numbers to go up, but if waiting a few days can help you put off paying the credit card company for a month, go for it! I wonder if we'll pick up a lot after Christmas? It seems to me that it could work that way.

I think this is a perfect time of year for this GB! In fact I'm buying the GB for my Wife for Christmas. Won't she be surprised? Don't worry, I got her more stuff too. I bought her a nice cordless drill, and a vacuum cleaner. I'm even thinking of buying her a membership at Jenny Craig.

Yeah, I think I may get lucky this Christmas.

Does that mean I have to work less today? Didn't you just love DST (Daylight Savings Time) in April when playing in bars, they closed an hour earlier? But they killed you in Otober and made you play an hour longer :-o :P

1:30 is too late for me! In any time zone! I guess it's a product of getting older. But then Saturday night we played at a Barbeque joint, and finished at 9:30! I didn't know what to do with myself!

edit: I just realized that I might need to clarify. 1:30 is the time we end at most places around here. Some cities go even later.
