That's exactly the reason why it isn't the same loop over and over :hihi:
It's actually a sequence from Antonio Blancas NOD-E ensemble which almost never really repeats. I thought it wouldn't be so boring with a generative sequence.I love this kind of seqs and can listen to them for hours :hihi:
3ee wrote:BTW... about the clip... OMG, didn't knew Valhalla Shimmer would sound so lovely!
Gonna get the demo right now! :)
Indeed! Shimmer and VRoom are amazing! ÜberMod will be amazing too (Check the ÜberMod examples thread for some examples)!

Cheers

I was talking about this: http://vimeo.com/33649692 :P (it's not that tiring, but it would have been more interesting to alter the sequence and synth a bit after a while. :D )

Just got back from listening the ÜberMod examples. ValhallaDSP seems to put out quality stuff that's for sure... really like them GUIs as well... almost love'em :hihi:

I found a bug where if you send automation values to decay that aren't in range (and other parameters as well, I think) it's causing audio to feedback/overload in five12 Numerology. Numerology's VU meters show sound, but I don't hear anything. I have to shut the program down and re-open.

This should work with the Numerology demo. Click on the disclosure triangle in the LFO and change the output range to -1 instead of 0.

Also, depth doesn't appear to be automatable?

This is weird behavior on the part of Numerology, in my opinion. Every other DAW I have worked with clips the parameters to be in the range specified by the plugin.

Specifying a negative decay will cause the parameter math to blow up, which is a good thing. Otherwise, the reverb would start decaying before you've sent anything into the input, which would defy the laws of causality, and would probably lead to the end of existence as we know it.

So, my recommendation is: Don't do that. You should limit the range of the automation in Numerology so that things don't exceed the parameter ranges of the plugin you are using. I could put math into VRoom to clip the parameters internally, but this seems like a pretty extreme edge case, and I'd be reluctant to add range checking (and the corresponding increase in cycles) to the plugin unless I know that this is a more common issue with DAWS besides Numerology.

I have a question: How redundant is it to have both the ValhallaShimmer and the ValhallaRoom?

I have bought Valhallaroom a few hours ago but i haven't received a key yet. I am in desparate need of one!
Buy Darling Sister's new album "Rise and fall" now! Just send a pm or an email. Visit our myspace page on www.myspace.com/darlingsister for songsamples.

Just my honest (?) opinion: Shimmer is a very specific effect unlike any other, very different from any kind of reverb. Especially when you use the classic pitch-one-octave-up-and-lots-of-feedback -mode (which I love more than life). But why not just try the demos and hear for yourself?

I'm not in the place to try out any plugins right now.I just like to keep myself informed. I've got my Amplitube for guitar practice, and that's all :S :)

Makes sense. Thanks for the info! I'll pass it along and see what happens. I thought of the old joke of "doctor, it hurts when I do this", but it's easy to accidentally change.

As an aside, I found it interesting that while I was demoing Ubermod and attaching LFOs to everything I could nothing seemed to explode it.

I had thought of that joke, as well. But I didn't want to come across as rude. It is so easy to have humorous intent fall flat on the Internet.

I am wondering if Max/MSP clips its values when automating parameters in a VST it is hosting. If it clips the parameters to the proper range, then I will presume that this is a bug in Numerology. If it doesn't clip them, I should probably assume that more "experimental" hosts may not clip parameters to the specified range, and put guard functions in there.

Clipping the parameters to the proper ranges internally would actually be fairly simple to code - it's just that these builds take a long time nowadays. I'd estimate 5 to 15 minutes to track down the proper point to put the clip in, but then a full day or two to build all the plugin formats, test, make installers, test, post online, and then send out notification emails. So I want to save up any such changes for a larger update.
As an aside, I found it interesting that while I was demoing Ubermod and attaching LFOs to everything I could nothing seemed to explode it.
Interesting. I may be performing more clipping functions on the parameters in ÜberMod, as a lot of different things get combined to determine the delay times.

Jim, the developer of Numerology says it's on his list. In the meantime I can most likely just use the modulation sequencers rather than LFOs.

Übermod does have a ton of parameters, so I may have missed some, but wow is it fun to automate. :)

Good to know. I may add parameter clipping for future plugins anyway, just to be on the safe side. I don't know if this is specified in the VST specs. Honestly, I don't know if there ARE VST specifications, at least for 2.4 and earlier.

Yeah, it is automation friendly. The beta testers really whacked on the automation (mainly using Logic), which helped point out the areas that needed special treatment in order to avoid glitches.

For example, the ÜberMod Spread, Skew and Random controls used to make discrete jumps when changed, as I figured these would be fixed. It turns out that cool effects can be had when automating these controls, but without smoothing in place, it turned into nasty zipper noise. I added smoothing, which had the unexpected side effect of turning changes to Spread/Skew/Random into flanging. Which is a cool sound in its own right.

if ((experimental_host)&&(delay_parameters != 0)) { delay_parameters = 0 }

Solving two problems at once, pesky experimental hosts and those pesky experimental delay times. :D
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

With the release of ÜberMod, I figured it was time to get on the Valhalla train and demo Sean's plugs. I loaded all three trials and I had busted out my paypal 30 seconds after firing up the Shimmer demo. The trial plugin cutting out at 45 seconds was a knife to the heart. Had to buy. Same with ValhallaRoom but demoed much longer. Über... I don't 'get' it yet, and I think I'm going to have to listen to some demo clips critically to really grok what's going on and if I need it in my toolkit.

ANYWAY... I just bought both Shimmer and Room. There is overlap, but not a lot. There are two or three killer factory presets in Shimmer that don't have similar counterparts in Room.

One thing I would like to see in Room that Shimmer features (in Logic anyway) is a factory preset dropdown menu. In Room there are so many presets it's easy to get lost.
