Saurus doesn't sound 'that' analog. Some patches do appear to be analog but not many of them. The behavior of the filter is a little strange. Sometimes it has some sweet spots for analog sounds but sometimes it doesn't. Had this synth sound completely analog, I do not think Tone2 would price Saurus at this price.
In terms of CPU, no one can denies this syn is efficient. But to say this synth sounds completely analog is some way off. There even to be some Gladiator ghost when tweaking the knobs.
As an owner of Diva, I would still buy Saurus for its sound, UI, and the vast amount of patches made by pro sound-designers. No reasons why one can't have both.

It takes cpu cycles to have that sort of sound quality. In Diva you can turn up feedback, Filter FM and resonance and still get a pleasing high end... and you pay for it with high cpu... no way around that...ttoz wrote:I wish it did kind of sound like Diva but with the new cpu load so i could use a few instances realtime and have an entirely analog sounding track. I am actually disappointed in that respect.pdxindy wrote:+1filter303 wrote:Saurus might not be Diva. But Tone2 has made the claims that this is an authentic analog emulation. It makes perfectly sense that it's being compared to a synth that most people agree of being the most authentic analog emulation in the existence.
"The circuits of several famous synthesizers have been measured, analyzed and carefully modeled"
What synths are they? If they sound anything like this, I would like to know so I can avoid ever buying them. FM, drive, extreme resonance and filter feedback sound so bad that I find it unbelievable that they are modelled from classic synthesizers.
I don't care if it sounds like Diva... In fact I don't want it to cause I have Diva. I just want it to sound good in its own way...

So Tone2, any plans to change demo restrictions..?
Let me throw this can of gas into the bonfire...
Can strict demo restrictions lead people into "try before you buy" or whatever that slogan is? (no, i will not say yarr)
And please, let's stay in reality, not in a developers utopia.
If you want to make money of your software, is this the way to go?
Please take a step back, gascan is about to explode

Oh come on! Has been said with sympathy, after allttoz wrote:You are very rude!
Just used that out of place words to highlight that a lot of comments and the way that has been expressed were out of place, IMO.
In any case I apologize for the rudeness!
And I totally agree with you. Just think that I'm the one that always said, in every single "analog vs VST" thread, that a VST plugin will never sound analog, and this is what I continue to think!ttoz wrote:Saurus doesn't sound bad as almost all have agreed, it just doesn't sound analog.
Max
EDIT: *despite my personal opinion it's true that an instrument or effect can be modelled after a particular piece of gear. And this is not a myth or a business strategy as someone said: there's a lot of work involved to reach the final results! So a ton of respect to Urs, Markus and everyone involved in this kind of research. The final result can be so different because the starting point can be very different: there's not only one type of analog synthesizer (Moog).

But there is no other clip of mine in this thread with a more sharp or high frequency sound, which could possibly have that effect as you described. ?ttoz wrote:no...himalaya wrote:This one?ttoz wrote:the high resonance demo. ouch.himalaya wrote:Which one?ttoz wrote:
At himalaya, that last demo almost pierce my eardrum. Grrrr.

from memory this one sat in the highs a lot, i should have quoted it then and there. grr
This is the only one, the real analog sound, which you found uncomfortable.

What IS "analog sounding track" ?ttoz wrote:I wish it did kind of sound like Diva but with the new cpu load so i could use a few instances realtime and have an entirely analog sounding track.
How do you define one ? can you set it apart from tracks that doesn't sound "analog" or sound "half-analog" ?
Can you tell that the sound was not treated with some "mojo" eq, but it actually
sound like that from it's inception ?
WILL IT MATTER ?
As the nick "aMused" is already taken, I am SERIOUSLY pondering the idea of changing mines to "bMused" (bemused)
Just make music, people. there is a place for everyone

Are the demo restrictions as bad as with ElectraX? When I tried to demo ElectraX during one of it's many "call home, open the Tone 2 website" episodes my computer locked up and after that would not boot. The boot sector was corrupt and I had to repair my system. I can't say for sure ElectraX was at fault as it could have just been a coincidence but I'm not taking any chances with any more Tone 2 demos.....and since I don't buy what I can't demo..........Crackbaby wrote:So Tone2, any plans to change demo restrictions..?
