He might not be; I'm just going by the "updated" dates on some folders which surely indicate some activity, but his main site shows no new entries.

Thanks eidenk for compakt and info on the unpacker.

With datafilehost, untick "Use our download manager and get recommended downloads" and then click on the smaller grey Download button and you'll get no adware.

I just came across this. Surprisingly, I can't find any mention of it on KVR, but it's well worth looking into. You need to download all 5 parts of the library and the Utility pack to use the vst as designed. Took about 25 minutes to download and 8 minutes to unpack! I posted it here but it probably deserves a mention in both the main Instruments and Sampling threads (as it's wav/sfz based). Instructions are on the site.

that's really sneaky, isn't it. datafilehost looks really cool apart from
that :)

It seems like we have already mentioned all the free vsti gems from the past and nothing left to say. The topic shall be closed.
I have hoped that the content of the mega thousand vsti list would be accesable somehow but i completely understand if it wont be. He collected them year after year had a lot of work with it. Why would he give it away ?
Its a pity tho...

Post

not really up to you to say though, is it. are you disappointed
because there isn't a 20Gb zip to download? this thread is this long
because people have bothered to participate - and there are still
some who find the oocasional item nobody has seen before and which
aren't featured on the KVR list, people who've bothered to go scanning
the web, not just hit the spoon-fed links.
aren't you getting the service you expect? or is this a troll-y wind-up?
what you wrote suggests you believe you are being denied something. do the
work, go through the list, ask for files that aren't there anymore. that's
what we did. unfortunately there is not a central repository at this time
for all the files found. it would be good -in 'Completism' terms, not neces-
sarily musical ones- but i don't think it is permissable.

if people have these files it is because they grabbed everything when they
saw it; it's still pretty useful for that. uploading oldies takes time,
and isn't always allowed under license terms. that is why you don't get
mega-packs - although everybody has probably considered at some point the
possibility of having 'The Total' free VST plugin menu/folder, and there
will perhaps be some future justification for that sort of thing, ie: if
a major manufacturer makes a hardware product that relies on VST plugins.

it is true the thread has slowed to a trickle (or less, at times). i reckon
no more than around 40 people bother to download everything, and there are
few who crawl through the entire list, judging by hit notifications here.

surprised you are not pronouncing VST to be dead in favour of Reaktor.
that's a very faddy trend at the moment. ;)

i've got a fresh - not old - draft of a rough VST project uploaded
yesterday, here:(it won't be featured anywhere else+ will soon be
superceded)

i spend most of my computer time fiddling with synthedit these days
rather than scouring the internet. i can't spend any more time on a
pc than i already do

the Dover site has a load of material for synthedit users
i hadn't spotted before.(hope it is in v1.01x version)

Truth is it's a PITA to go through all these messages to find stuff - while some links may not work anymore (navigation is annoying: you get page 1,2,3...then jumps to 700+). So yes, IMO having some sort of VST list would be very helpful.

I don't understand the "even if it's free, you have to roll up your sleeves to get it" mentality. I don't like going through hoops to get a freebie - I consider it unnecessary. Yes some people have bothered to keep an eye on these freeware/abandonware VSTs, upload and post the links - kudos for that and I don't think anyone showed a lack of gratitude, but what's the point in doing all that if the fruit of your labour gets burried under hundreds of messages?

The reason why some websites doing the same thing as this topic are so successful and getting lots of visitors daily is simply because they've organised the content so it would be easily accesible. That's the only difference - but it makes all the difference, if you know what I mean ;)

well who do you think should do it?

Post

Well IMO the folks who started the topic should have thought of aggregating all the active links in a list so it could be easily accessible for anyone interested. But that's just my opinion :)
