Someone needs to sum up this thread for any late-comers to this party.
Here goes:
Apple bought Camel Audio. So did Coke. And Izotope. And Google, of course. This happened because of the new VAT regulation, which forces small developers to bathe in huge VATs of frog muck before selling a product.
Camel Audio had a big huge sale right before the buyout, with the sole intent of ripping off humanity and then farting in the general direction of KVR.
Currently, all former Camel Audio employees are sitting in the Bahamas, sipping coke (courtesy of their new bosses) from the belly-buttons of ex-Emagic employees.
Meanwhile, Zenpunkhippy is plotting to take over Ketchum, Idaho using extreme hyperbole. Ben Gillett is still on the run, but Paris police are closing in fast.

Your problem is that you think that this would matter to the legion of KVR morlocks for whom any opportunity to have a go at a developer gets embraced as strongly as possible.beely wrote:Let's also make the point (again) for the people with the "cynical cash grab" theories - Camel Audio were one of the most visibly ethical companies out there, regularly doing things for charities they believed in, donating money, creating products and donating sales - this is not a company full of cynical cash grabbers - as anyone who has had any dealings with them over time fully understands.
Good guys, who are in some kind of situation we don't have the facts about yet, and are unable, for whatever reason, to comment further at this time.

Well this much I will say (hopefully it's allowed):fmr wrote:I think the already mentioned Mach Five and HALion 5 will be be suitable for what you want. Kontakt too. And Lin Plug CRX, and many other samplers or sample based synths available. Be aware there is nothing in the mobile world that you can't find (with much more power) in the desktop world. Maybe not exactly matching, but similar.Cinebient wrote:Ah...if i could import my samples into Zebra 2 all my dreams came true. I have an interesting tiny iOS synth where i can use up to 32 sound sources/samples for one patch. It can't sadly interpolate just blend between them but this it can do it in any way i could imagine and it let me use infinite modulation if i want.
Could tell me someone if there is anything like that in the desktop world. I really need such stuff for sound design. Since i'm still new in the desktop world and had big hopes for Alchemy 2 in terms of sample manipulation, blending and morphing i think my search will start new...
No. Kontakt, HALion, Mach Five etc do not represent anywhere near suitable replacements for Alchemy 2. Wish you guys will have the chance at some point to hear just how good the morphing additive/spectral engine thing got. We are talking Kyma levels of possibilities here.
The more I think about it the more it all smells like an IP sell off. Heck I'd do it too if somebody threw me enough money. Yeah, Alchemy 2 had potential for ridiculously awesome stuff. We'll see how it all plays out in the end. For now I'm just relieved that no personal tragedies have been reported which means all of the core team are doing fine. I'm sure we'll get more news at some point. In the mean time, why not just enjoy Alchemy 1.55 as it is.

That's one way to look at it. Ot perhaps it's just the Entitlement Gene kicking in.whyterabbyt wrote:Your problem is that you think that this would matter to the legion of KVR morlocks for whom any opportunity to have a go at a developer gets embraced as strongly as possible.beely wrote:Let's also make the point (again) for the people with the "cynical cash grab" theories - Camel Audio were one of the most visibly ethical companies out there, regularly doing things for charities they believed in, donating money, creating products and donating sales - this is not a company full of cynical cash grabbers - as anyone who has had any dealings with them over time fully understands.

Can't remember, I think Apple announced a press release about the purchase but I'm not sure off the top of my head. Will go back and see what I can find out...HideawayStudio wrote:Just out of interest... how was the Redmatica takeover finally officially announced?

"Dear Redmatica Customer,
After eight wonderful years of developing creative sampling tools, I have decided to close Redmatica to pursue other interests. Thank you for all your patronage!
Andrea Gozzi, Founder"
- There follows some instructions on how to download the latest updates. I found out about all this (as did every Redmatica customer) via an email that contained this message and some serial numbers for the latest and last update.
- Customers who bought Redmatica products from the Apple Store were advised to backup their version of the apps. This isn’t boding well for the customer base!!"

"Apple has reportedly bought small Italian startup Redmatica, a company that specializes in making digita music-editing apps that all run on the Mac.
The news comes from an Italian blog, which did some digging and found a document from Italian communications regulator AGCOM that seems to prove that Cupertino purchased the start-up."
--
"Apple has bought out an Italian company, Redmatica, reports say. The news was broken a local blog, which also obtained a document supporting the claim from the country's communications regulator, AGCOM. Neither Apple nor Redmatica have confirmed the deal, although Apple rarely makes any announcements about the acquisitions of smaller firms."
So maybe it wasn't officially announced at all, but we found out anyway... my memory is foggy of that time...

Thanks - and also some idea of the timescale between the equivalent of today's hysteria and the final official announcement from Apple.beely wrote:Can't remember, I think Apple announced a press release about the purchase but I'm not sure off the top of my head.
