Hm. Don't know about that. I used to be a pothead, and in my experience, when you smoke pot many times daily (and especially one right about bed-time), you don't dream. At all. I think I had about ten dreams in ten years...Markleford wrote: And unfortunately I don't even have any cool "burned my brains out with narcotics" stories to explain it: near as I can tell, it's corporate employment that kills the creative side of the subconscious mind!![]()

Now I dream every night, and I even remember some when I wake up. But I don't think I'm more or less creative now, I'm just more structured, so some of my my ideas actually get recorded and remembered...

[confession]
I kind of liked 8-mile. I don't know if any of that stuff actually went on before the movie, but it charms me to think that these tough guys are sitting at home with a pen and a notebook trying to outpoet the other guy rather than honing a swithcblade... And it has had a real impact, too. Lots of kids are actively involved in clubs and take classes in rhymesmithing and poetry. this has clearly done more for writing and literery creativity among kids than anything else I can think of. There wasn't a lot of positive feedback for rhyming when I was a teenager, that's for sure...
And I liked the line '...you've worked so long at this plant you've become a plant'.
[/confession]
I still think those hiphop people are all amazingly alike - everybody talking about themselves and how they hate this and that and how smart they are and how dumb I am.

damstraversaz and respirator:
Wow - thanks for your votes. I don't know if I've ever received a 1 or 2 place vote before.
And respirator - your suggestions are well taken - but my gear list includes only 3 mics:
CAD M-177 LDC
old-school TEAC mic with the cable hard wired in - I don't remember the model number
Sennheiser MD-421 (actually this belongs to our church, but they never use it and I asked to borrow it a long time ago and they said no problem)
1 dbx mini pre mic preamp.
1 mic stand (otherwise I would have mic'ed the guitar with both the MD-421 and sent that signal through my Behringer V-amp, the only other piece of kit that I have to amplify a signal
These go direct into my Soundblaster LIVE live drive i/o panel.
This song is only the 2nd time I've mic'ed up my guitar and I just copied what I did on my April entry. I'm still learning. I've re-eq'ed the guitar to let a little more of the bottom end sing (I had HP filtered it at about 200 Hz to take out some room resonances). Using lower strings more would mean figuring out a way to play the chords so the lower strings get used. These were standard open position G, C, Amin, Dmin7, F chords (the F I guess I could have barred to get the lower 2 strings).
But now I'm rambling - thanks for the votes.
