Aaah, gotta go dig that one out. I think I did download it when Daniel released it. Gorgeous GUI I recall.. :)

Cheers!

Well, this is fun! Listening to all the samples put up, comparing them to each other...

I think my latest samples got a bit too smashed up, so here's some softer compression from the same plugins.

UAD-1 LA2A with less compression

Here's the UAD 1176 LN @ 4:1

UAD 1176 LN - Brittish mode with less compression

TLs Saturated Driver with less compression

And here's some other samples of the same units

Right. Here, as promised, are a few interesting compression examples done on the TLA Classic series C1 using Bmanic's original 16 bit wave file as a source. I raised the level of the original file to give me more control at the compressor input, but other than that what you are hearing is just my front panel knob twiddling.

Enjoy. A few of these are actually usable. :hihi:

What an excellent thread. Thanks to everyone contributing. Putting some soundbytes behind your words happens much too seldom in here.

Keep it up.

Yoh,

so far among the best stuff I've heard here (to my taste) is the TLA C1 (Goodluvin). It sounds smooth and has depth at the same time. It doesn't sound exerted, even at extreme settings. Sounding exerted is the main prob that most plugin compressors have when being really pushed me thinks. Dunno how to describe it better right now.

Jens, what did you use for your "some magic.mp3" example? Also GCO-1? This example is to my liking.

Quite amazing to me is also the Xhip compressor. Interesting colour. It's a little fiddly to dial in but in can sound really cool. Unfortunately it doesn't sound so good in the low end.

I was also a little amazed by the (yes, I know what I recently wrote about it! ) PSP MasterComp. It seems to need some more time to dial stuff in. Maybe it's just that sample where it works so good. I will check it out more detailed.

On the not liking side for me are: UAD stuff. I sold my card because of being unimpressed. Need to say more? Sonalksis, smooth sound but not my style. Compadre, boring. Crunchessor, some medium liked stuff and mostly not liked stuff heard. Nuff said.

Best wishes, FRitz
