I could understand compression ratios of around 50 to, say, even 70 & or so. But from 150MB to 18?mahtazz wrote:Compressed

Lossy compression maybe? :/ Does .sf2 even support that?
Thank you for the free kit, I am very keen to get it but do not use Halion2. I'm going to see what I can do for myself, but I doubt that will be much. :P

ARGH - FREAKING Softsamplers!!!
EXS doesn't allow filenames using more than 31 characters... f***!
Now I need to rename the samples and re-upload them, once I'm done.

I was reading on Audioshots and apparently .sf2 only supports 16-bit, so that would explain some of the reduction in size (the uncompressed .sf2 available on audioshots, not sure if it's the same one, is about 100mb). The one over there also uses sfark compression. If that is the same for the one released here, then that would explain it. I don't know if sfark uses lossy compression or not.
I don't use a drum sampler specifically, I just use samplers. sfz (free version) and I also use shortcircuit. I love shortcircuit when I load single samples myself, because I find it really easy to load them up etc.

sfArk is lossless compression.

Yes, sfArk is really good at compression.
Still, I wonder whether the SF2 is all ok as SF2 doesn't support 24 bits...
Just downloaded it and will do a comparison later on.

Btw, I'm not even halfway done with all the mappings, but from playing around a bit with what I have so far, I can only say that this is going to be a fantastic drumset!

Of course! But due to the long filenames it'll require some renaming action on your (and all other EXS users) part, because I won't repost the samples.Bonteburg wrote:Will you post the kit Sascha??
Btw, I just compared the SF2 with what I allready have, and while there's quite some difference in punchyness, I'm quite amazed how well VSampler has been doing the SF2 export job. All exclusive groups are intact, velocity splits seem to be fine too and sfz was just happily working with it.
Btw, Battery 1 won't load the SF2 version properly at all, so don't even try it...

I could argue with you here... (for instance about the insufficient amount of cells), but hey..Kudasai wrote:I think that RMIV is the most versitile drum sampler around.
I might be doing a Battery kit - is RMIV supposed to load those? Is anyone planning to map and share this kit in rm4 format?

Sascha Franck wrote:How comes the SF2 files are so small?
Like I explained on Audioshots, it seems the exporting from Halion 2 to sf2 reduces the files to about 100 mb due to the 24 bit to 16 bit thing.Sascha Franck wrote:Yes, sfArk is really good at compression.

Just downloaded it and will do a comparison later on.
What surprised me is that the sfark archiving (I let it at the "normal compression" option) does an astonishing job (18 mb!!! I couldn't believe it at first)...
I wonder what we could achieve with
the "maximum compression" option
EDIT: compressing at maximum give the same result (but it takes longer to do so): 18,4 mb. I just tried it.
I also verified in the help file to be sure and I read that sfark is definitely lossless...
