CSR is here, but how does it sound?

Ok, just got home a little while ago, and CSR was sitting by my machine waiting for me to install it. :D

First, let's deal with the copy/protection thing since I saw that thread got locked..

While slightly tasky, it's by no means a real burden at all; from start to finish, like the other IK products I've registered, the entire process from installation to registration took less than 5 minutes with an internet connection at the ready. About the only thing you actively are required to enter by hand is the initial software serial number and IK takes it from there. All you need to do afterwards is copy/paste the rest of the entries, so it's really no big deal.

That's the end of that discussion as far as I'm concerned..

So firing up eXT I loaded the CSR Hall vst and hooked up my Ibanez Baritone.

To put it bluntly:

I am very f**king impressed.

Stupid adjectives like dense, lush, beautiful, musical, and most importantly, CLEAR, even through a heavy mix come to mind. I haven't had a chance to run through everything(I had to forcefully put down my guitar long enough to write this), but my early impressions are that I can safely say this will be my default reverb from here out..

Good Job, IK, and thanks for the SR discount, Squids!

:D :D :D

I've just received and installed CSR. Certainly puts the "Class" in "Classik"! :)
Plate and Room are my favorites so far (one beautiful surprise in the Room plugin is a preset called "Cool Mod 1".. try that on a slow ballad-style acoustic piano, it puts a very gentle vibrato on the piano.. really makes it sing :) ). The overall "smoothness" of the Inverse plugin is in the high-end hardware class too.
If, by deduction, that reads like I'm a little disappointed in the Hall plugin, that's only because non of its presets have really jumped out at me so far, and I must admit I'm a bit spoilt by some of the other reverbs I already have, (mentioning no names, but just think of early in the alphabet a couple of times ;) ) but I have already made a couple of presets with it myself that I find more "reassuring".(generally speaking, the Hall presets all seem to be a bit on the "dark" side for my taste, and while one can roll off some low frequency in the plugin itself, I feel that sometimes it could use a little high-mid boosting from an external EQ). On the other hand, the Plate plugin is my new "go to" for that type of reverb.
Overall, very glad to have purchased this reverb suite. :)

Edit: forgot to add... the degree of control in Advanced Mode is staggering! :)
I did get a life,once...but it was faulty, so I sent it back.

After reading this forum for a few days, I know I want CSR even with a dongle, C/P, and an anchor chained to it. :D Even without a demo. Problem is, I can't afford it for a while. I would, however, borrow the money if I needed to in order to take advantage of the cross-grade.

My question for Squids: would IK allow you to give any advance warning (say a week or more) that the all products cross-grade option was about to end? Would they even tell you that much in advance?

If so, I think there are a number of people who would feel more at ease, since they could stop waking up at night wondering if they should put their car on eBay motors, etc. If we had a week of warning posted on this forum, at least that might give us time to scrape together the funds so as not to miss the cross-grade.

I understand if this is something you aren't allowed to do, but if it's possible, it would be much appreciated.

Okay. You have one week. Good luck! Just kidding. Yes, this is exactly the kind of stuff I like to do. I am here to help so, yes, if I find out any specifics on that I will give you guys a head's up.

OK, I installed CSR and gave it a whirl. I've been enjoying it thus far, and I thought I'd demonstrate one of the presets in action:

CSR_Large_Hall.mp3

It's about 1 minute long--a little piano melody I came up with, accompanied by the free downloadable Miroslav string patch for ST 2.1. :D

I think I ended up going with the "Large Hall" preset at it's default settings as a send, and the piano and strings are both pretty soaked, just to help demonstrate the reverb itself.

Hope you like it!

Love it. But where's the vocals dude? Come on. Show us some of that Peter Gabriel-esque stuff!

Very nice, Mike :)
I'd love to have your opinion on this Hall preset I've just done. Just unzip it and put it in the /IK Multimedia/CSR/CSR Presets/Send folder (so if you use it as an insert, you'll need to raise the Dry level)
I did the preset (solo grand piano in mind), then left it for a while, and when I came back to it I was pleasantly surprised (it's considerably brighter than the factory halls) :)

Great to hear what feedback there is so far. I'm still waiting for mine ... it's creeping up on 3 weeks since it was shipped (February 17th), so I'm not sure what's taking so long. I'm in North America, so it's not as if it had to go overseas or anything. Hopefully the universe will see this message and deliver it tomorrow morning. :P

Did you order it from esoundz? If so then please check with elijah@esoundz.com If not then check with the store to be sure it went out. Just a suggestion. Hope you like it!

I ordered my CSr a few weeks ago.

It turned up on Tuesday, which was my birthday. So a nice present...

I seemed to be having a reverb birthday, since the missus bought me a Verbzilla pedal for my guitar....

Shame I'm so busy at the moment to play with them... Roll on the weekend.

I got my CSR a while ago and if not for my job that is keeping me from my studio at the moment, I'd be reverberating the shit out of my sounds all day long :D CSR sounds incredible and being rather ignorant about adjectives describing reverb characteristics, I can only say that I don't think I'll be using any other reverbs (payware/freeware) from now on. Presets did not jump at me either, but once I switched to Advanced mode and started tweaking... Man, even the 65 second long tails sound great  ;) All in all, CSR is the best $$$ I've ever spent on a reverb!

BTW, is there a way of making the Advanced interface the default one?

Any luck with the Lexi-based presets, Squids?

Sigh...

I already own a few other reverbs (ArtsAcoustic Reverb, WaveArts MasterVerb, SpinAudio RoomVerb) and I told myself "you don't need another reverb, no matter how utterly fantastic it sounds."

After all this discussion here and on the Cakewalk forum about CSR, I finally broke down and bought it. I am never going to save any money at this rate. :hihi:

Look forward to gettin' my brand spankin' new reverb soon!

Poverty's under-rated. Grab a mike and sample your stomach growling and throw a big Hall preset over it. Maybe you can make a sample set and get some dough back..

I'm getting mine on Monday and really can't wait! All the demos I've heard are plain awesome!

This is a link to a file from another thread...

Test CSR against a Lex300l...

Now, my fried ears can't tell the nuances besides a bit of low end...but it all seems pretty consistent to me...

It starts with CSR and then goes to the Lex..

:edit: And considering the Lex goes for around a grand used...I think CSR holds it own on a cost/value basis...
