In FLStudio, goto "Options" -> "Project general settings" and turn off circular panning law!
Now you got your "same as sx3 loud"... hard ehhh?
Out of curiousity, why does this work the way it does?
Preference?

It would be cool if it were a knob that allows you to choose somewhere in between
No I mean why does turning it off make the sound louder? The manual doesn't really get into detail regarding panning laws.

Panning laws 101.
If you have a mono sound panned in the middle it will be played from both speakers and sound louder than if it is panned hard right/left where only one speaker is playing back.

To prevent the volume to go up and down while you're panning the host lowers the volume when centered. Normally (i think) - 3 dB. Some hosts allow you to choose between different values. -6 dB,- 3 dB, no compensation and so on.

This is just to make mixing easier. It is no measure of quality or something like that.

However if you're measuring differences between hosts (or lack of :D ) they must be set to the same pan law otherwise one host will have more volume than the other. It is the same as raising the volume fader. And for accuracy reasons you wan't to have volume set at 0 dB as you can be pretty sure 0 dB is the same in every host. Of course - 3 dB should be the same as well but you never know if it is -3.0001 on one host and exactly - 3.0 on another.

And lastly some people think that different pan laws affect stereo signal so the center gets louder. They are seriously misinformed and should be tared and feathered if they utter that misconception in public.

"get some pan law" is however more poetic

Hey Gol I'm thinking that if the manual stated that "circular panning laws reduce overall volume", then maybe a lot of these misconceptions might be ended. Assuming that people actually read the manual :)

i always thought the panning difference was caused by the difficulty in setting the controls - hard right or left is only from one channel - so in a given host how far do you have to move the slider to get to be at -30 db from normalon one side - so the difficulty in setting panned sounds up the same makes hosts sound different when compared
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.
