this reminds me of some occasions where playing back works fine but when trying to record in the same project audio-glitches start. maybe a hint?

oh another hint maybe: i got the 1820m too. but just as i stated 40 times or so now, the problems occur only with xt2 (and ext 1.4 but to not as heavily as with xt2)...

am i sweetheart? :o

:hihi:

@ disturb, no not insted!! i have it for a few reasons, 1 beta testing, 2 extra ASIO output to use while my host is open & 3 because i'm a geek,

@ jens, ASIO4ALL 15-20% idle, RME & EMU both from 4-12% idle & the onyx takes 15-20% but spikes up to 50% every now & then (but my only firewire port is on my emu sound card :? )

all 3 of the cards use 0-4% in XT1 & asio4all uses 10-20% in XT1

so, XT2 uses more idle then XT1 & asio4all is a cpu hog :hihi:

PS, the latest vista beta drivers for my emu are working great on my XP PC, it seems vista helped them find a few things they missed before 8)

install these & see if it helps?

ooh - that gave me ideas - there are new drivers with Vista-support for my Mia as well - gonna try how they're working! :-D

What graphics card do you use, Subz, and what chipset is your motherf**ker-board based on?

Do changes to the screen-resolution make any difference? And how is it in linux?

For me there's no significant difference between 1.4 and XT2 - we need to find out what's causing it if it's there.

Post

hmm,

now my onyx is on (although not in use) i'm getting a much bigger hit on cpu (with XT2 only)

emu 20-30% (0-4 in XT1 with onyx switched on) RME 7-13% (0-4% in XT1) asio4all 18-30%

i see why the new 1820's have the firewire port removed

still theres a big difference between XT1 & XT2

system info

gigabyte mobo & chipset, 2100 ddr ram RADION :o dule screen 9250 agp,

i don,t have linux on this pc now but when i did the (2 months ago) the GUI was slick as a mo fo,

changed screen rezo to 600x800 16bit & disabled the 2'nd monoter, & performance is a bit better emu 5-10 with onyx off

I guess it's the chipset - Gigabyte however don't build chips afaik - what's the exact name of the motherboard?

Post

sorry,

VIA 4in1 chipset

4 ide ports instead of two 8)

VIA - just as I guessed

@ all the others with performance problems: what chipset does your motherboard use?

(personally I avoid VIA like the plague b.t.w.)

Post

I do NOT have performance problems ('New sequencer' project gives me 2% CPU in Taskmanager) apart from the one described by disturb at the top of this thread's page 7.
But I DO have VIA chipsets (K8T800Pro, VT8237 on ASUS A8V Deluxe MoBo)

So maybe - if your guess is right, Jens - it's only older VIA chipsets?

perhaps - but I've also heard some rumours that it makes a difference how they are assembled on the board (i.e. the performance with VIA-chipsets can be bad under certain curcumstances on certain boards)

Post

Mine is an intel chipset, as i said, a blank project barly uses cpu here (seems to be still a little more than xt1 though).
Anyway, my issues are only related to graphics as i described, nothing else.

Post

Yes, intel chipset here as well. However you twist it I think it's just inefficient coding in the GUI/audio engine.

See this thread for the CPU load when XT2 is idling

Having been a computer assembler/tech at one point, I can say that I avoid VIA as well. I've also read about many problems with their boards. I admit this was a couple of years ago, but I've avoided them since. I've bought a couple because at the time they had the best features, but I've never looked back now I moved onto either Intel chipsets or nVidia chipsets. All chipsets can have problems, but VIA always seem to have more.

Let's not discuss SiS at all. :P

For reference, I was saying energyXT seems to work more or less fine on my system (I've never sat down and totally watched its usage to see if it's being an ass or not though); one of them is an nForce4, and the one I mostly use now in the laptop is an Intel chipset.

:-o :help:

My current board is using ALi - inexpensive and reliable they say...
